Perhaps some of you know Vampira Caldera in Second Life. I have known her in game for a year although we are not close friends (yet). I knew she lived in New Orleans so left a message for her and one of her friends with my name and phone number. The friend called me today. She is in Mississippi with her 13 year old daughter and her 9 year old autistic son. They are in a Truck Stop motel with power flickering on and off.
The long and the short of it is I have found a place for her and her children to stay here in Indiana relatively close to where I live. The couple has adopted many children with special needs and are already at work getting a line on some medication for Vampira's boy and clothing and other necessities for the family.
My husband and I will drive to the Kentucky border tomorrow to pick them up and take them to their temporary home. I will also be available to drive her to various social service places and anywhere else she may need to go.
Unfortunately what they do not have is money. She is a single mother on social assistance. They left home with the clothes on their backs. I have NO idea how to go about holding a fund raiser in SL but I did want to share this story of one family with you should you wish to donate Lindens to help them along. I can only try to assure you that any Lindens I receive will be changed into U.S. dollars and given directly to Vampira.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Is GOM no longer up? What's the exchange rate these days? Should we donate to you or directly to Vampira's account?

Which Account?
09-03-2005 02:40
I know that she left home without a thing including Identification. She might have a difficult time trying to do banking transactions in Indiana. I would suggest you put any monies you wish to donate into my account. Thank you so much again for your prayers and generosity.
I just discovered for myself that GOM is down and IGE is not making any sales transactions at this time. I logged on this morning to find 30 K in my account from you kind people. I am assuming the rate of exchange is about $3.50 at the moment (???) so will give her money of my own and deal with transferring Lindens at another time. So even with GOM and IGE not available any monies in my account WILL get to her just as soon as I pick her up in KY.
Thank you all again so very much.

Pepper Curie and I had a marvelous Event and donations for Vampira and her children poured in. So far we have raised $300. U.S. which I will give to her when she arrives on Monday. I am totally overwhelmed by the generosity of the residents of Second Life. Thank you ALL so much for your generosity and kindness.
Sincerely,
