when you do voting for contests, how do you do it?

one vote per person?
judges?
first, second, third place?
points for every entry?
everyone can vote?
only group members can vote?
only judges vote?

do you do this manually? or do you have a script?

what have you tried? what didn't work? what's worked best for you?

In all the voting I've ever done / seen at events, it's generally a joke / popularity contest. :(

I have a script... it was written by Philip Linden, and it's available at every telehub.

well script is nice for voting during events but it to is not goof-poof as you say. Problem is taking votes from 40-45 people or more. omg its a pain specially if your laggin and or other things going on during the event. Most host take pride doing event and telling the winner (I do :) )..... As for voting being a joke, well i was on the other end of game before and i i too feel this way at some events. Is is a game no? Not life and dealth.

Its been a while since I've done an AV contest that required voting but...

Typically, I'd have folks IM me with their votes. Anyone could vote - and I'd keep a running tally on a piece of paper. The top 3 would get a cash prize that would be funded by Linden event support. (No longer available).

Yes, it ends up being a popularity contest - that sucks some of the fun out of it :(. Depending on the type of AV contest, some folks would take it more seriously than others.

A SciFi AV or Creative AV contest was more likely to draw serious candidates.

Fashion shows typically involve a panel of judges - inherently less of a popularity contest - but much more of a production. (Not a bad thing). Prizes are typically higher - may be cash and/or items - and require some sort of sponsorship to do on a regular basis.

I like to use points for every entry, and everyone votes.. The score is announced thus anyone can keep track of those in the lead.

its validity seems to very on how much turn over of people during the event. and if people actually figured out how to click on a large screen sometime during the min the rating vote was on. (it scares me when the returned score was the number I put in for many votes in a row)

I seen those click board voting systems, and to somethey are no that easy to deal with.
As Travis said, at times it does happen that way. But its beyond my control its the to voters that make it that way.

Its not easy having everyone vote during a event, so the point system is not really a good option in my mind. Thou its a idea. um :)
