Tired of seeing the standard message when you IM someone who is offline? Wish that you could have your own message displayed when you're offline?

I propose that we be allowed to create and customize our own Offline message through the Preferences tool.

Prop 539 - Customizable Offline Messages

Great idea, and can't be too difficult to implement.

Thanks Hiro!

If any of you think this would be helpful to you and you can spare a vote or two, please do!

*bump*

Just to remind you - VOTE for this! ;)

Setup and change your offline notification - no more standard 'one size fits all' message when you're not in SL.

I spent all my votes, but I would love to be able to customize my offline message. It would read something along the lines of,

"If you can't say what you have to say to me in 1 or 2 messages, maybe 3 tops, write a damn notecard! Don't send me 12 IMs with "Hi" "Are you on?" "Oh" "Ok" "I bought the shirt" "The one with the sleeves" "LOL" "It's gone." "I mean I can't find it" "lol" "In my inventory" "Help?".... A simple, "Hi, I have a question about an item I purchased, please IM me when you get this. Thanks." will suffice."

Is that too long?

Oh my. That's a fabulous idea. It speaks to a level of communication skill not broadly held.
I belive most people's skills are geared almost entirely to dialogue and immediate response. Bizzare as that is considering the number of delayed-response communications technology the modern world has available.
It would be fabulous to be able to foster an understanding of delayed communication.

Ack that's a pet hate of mine too. Sometimes one person can manage to use up half my quota of IMs before being capped, and still not say a damn thing!

LOL! No - it's not too long. ;)

If we were able to get the Lindens to implement this, there might be some limit to the # of characters in your message, but I'm sure they'd give us plenty.

I know a lot of you have used all of your votes, but when a proposal you voted for is accepted and implemented, you'll have a free vote to put toward this one! ;)
