Ok just when I think I *get* the economy, I don't.
I was speaking last night to a person high in the rankings and found out I was making WAY less than they were. I do ok in the leaderboards. Im in the top ten on a few and not on others at all. Im not complaining, I do ok. But when I learned that this other person was making 10x what I was it lead me to wonder if I had a bug or what ??
I spoke to a Linden who informed me they thought it was because the other person owned more than I did (more prims). I'm sorry but this confuses the heck out of me.
I buy land and am told I will need to cover "x" amount of taxes but there is no real way to know if my stipend + bonus will cover it. So I hang onto my $ and wait til I have a big cushion. I'm thereby keeping $ out of the pool. BUT by counterpart is affording 10x the taxes I am? Can I afford it too? How do I know?
Seems the stipend + bonus is equal the taxes & maint. Is that always true? Will it ever be upside down? I was told no after I was once upside down a few weeks ago, that the new fix would correct that. If this is true then whats the point of getting a bonus?
This is clear as mud. Can anyone sort this out? I'd love to spend my money without worry of going broke. Seems the more you have the more you get. True or not?

We really need a way to see what our stipend and bonus would be, independant of how much taxes we have or the money we have.
Right now the simplest way to say it is this: If you have less than $3500 then your stipend/bonus will never be more than your taxes. It could be less than your taxes if you build too much.
If you have under $3500 then your stipend/bonus will never be more than your Taxes plus whatever it takes to get you to $3500.
Examples: If you have $1,500 in taxes, and $10,000 in cash your stipend and bonus will never be more than $1,500.
If you have $1,500 in taxes, and $1,000 in cash your stipend and bonus will never be more than $4,000 ( $1,500 + ($3,500 - $1,000) ).
Conclusion: The benefit of better ratings, to get a better bonus, is that you can afford more taxes. Which is why we need a system to see what our max bonus + stipend would be, to plan what we can and can't afford.

Good point, Misnomer!
I think for this wonderful experience is to be a success, Linden Labs will need to institute a policy of complete transperency in regards to the economy... Each and every person should have the right to know what their max potential bonus is each week, and how much is "lost" due to not having enough taxes to counter that bonus. Like last week, I got my $1k stipend, plus $800-something for my bonus, which equals the $1800 in taxes for that week. How much could I get for my bonus if my taxes were high enough? I, for one, would very much like to know. Again, this is an issue that Linden Labs will have to deal when people are *paying* to use SL....as it's only fair to let their customers know what they can and cannot do at any single point in time.
I understand this is beta, and they have the right to experiment with us - indeed, this is the "price" we have to pay to use SL at this point. But at go-live time, I hope the Lindens realize that their current "secretive" economic policy will *not* work as it stands now...
