I've been a regular forum follower/contributor for a fairly long time now, and I don't recall ever seeing so much nastiness and mud and vicious crap flying around in as many different threads and coming from as many different directions as I've seen today.
Didn't ANYONE get laid last night?

- Ace It was much worse about 2 months ago with all the land baroning/my store sim is better than your store sim/ cybersex/people selling freebies/chance and his incredible edible sim converter....it comes and goes in cycles.....its been a while I guess because all the little meltdowns with the 1.5 upgrade had everyone upset at the man....now its back to bashing eachother like it should be.

I'm wonderin' if its a female thing. Its not that the guys aren't in the middle of it all too, but I'm thinking that maybe, similar to what often happens when women live together in r/l, all the women of SL are now on the same menstrual cycle, and this is just a bad case of communal PMS. You get a bunch of guys surrounded by women all dealing with hormone imbalances, and they tend to go off their rockers too.
What is it ladies? Are you all approaching that time of the month at the same time?

- Ace I did I don't understand all the mudslinging on here either. There are certainly plenty of things and people I could complain about in SL (neighbors with ugly spinners, ugh!), but I rarely appreciate reading those complaints on here so I try not to spam others with my own complaints. I only bitch about things I think others care about as well. My mom always said to me, "Complain to someone who can do something about it." Words to live by.

Well, Talen is pretty well right on. A vast number of people are fickle little creaters that must be busy creating drhama and throwing profanity and insults at each other like a school yard full of teenagers in heat. When 1.5 came out, LL was taking all the flaming, and infact, for the most part, they did the right thing, they remained _fairly_ quiet. Now that people are bored flaming LL for 1.5, now the concentration has reverted back onto each other. Much like a pack of hungry canibals, many resort to eating each other for breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack, and the occasional-while-at-work-munchee-attack. Why did the flames not get out of hand in 1.5? LL stayed quiet, and when they did respond, it was always respectful. How can you attack the granny that helps you cross the street? But, our fickle little trolls and drhama-maniacs love to respond, and let things get out of hand We've seen this cycle countless times infact. Does anyone remember the 1.1 days, when LL announced 1.2? Before that was the regular hum of flames and trolling, then everyone got centered on the 1.2 revelation, and tried to analyse what this would mean, and the usual few flames at LL. Then 1.2 came, and it past, then a short bout of AV-forum-canibalism, then the land barrons got it (hehe, I was in on that ) and then for me, it all became a blur again. lol, its a big cycle, who gets eaten, or torched now! I used to partake, but hell, its much more fun to stoke the flames, and poke people from the sidelines than jump in... Its AV-Forum-Canabalism... The old eat their young, and eventually, the young bite back Peace out.

Sometimes SL names can be deceiving though. Just felt I had to pipe up for the girls.

would that be laid in real life, or laid in second life? i'm sure that might have something to do with it.
and do men that play women on second life have a virtual menstrual cycle? from what i've seen inworld and on the forums, i'm sure of it.
do women that play men on second life grow hair in their ears and get beards? beat on drums, nocturnally emit, late at night, after playing too much sl? ace???
it's much more complicated than just being on the rag.

The irony here being the secondary thread I started was to get away from the festering name-calling one. But no-one wants to post to *that* one rationally, it seems, they stick to the first.
I tried. Yes, I asked some pointed questions, but I did not attack anyone on a personal level to frame those questions.
Ack.

Given: - Any online discussion board - Poster A - Opinion A - Poster B - Opinion B - Opinion A not equal to Opinion B
Then: - Poster A + Opinion A + Poster B + Opinion B = Fighting, arguments, insults, etc.
Such is the nature of online discussions. Some folks can carry on a well-reasoned, calm discussion, whereas others get emotionally charged, angry, and need to 'win' their case, no matter what. It might take a dozen enlightened minds to make a great thread, but only one hothead to make it awful.

- Newfie Pendragon You have officially become my online guru...If that ain't the truth! You would think we would have evolved enough as a civilization to move beyond the "Your a poo-poo head" "Nuhhuhh You are, I saw it...you had poopoo on your head last week." Especially when the thread starts with "What does everyone think about land prices?"

if you wanna see serious mud slinging, go to the archives and search for billboard, theme or commercialism. if your brain still functions. browse back over here and see just how lighthearted it all is now.

The first question I have, alluding to Ace's tokin' joints, is this: Why be low when you can be high? This negative drama which hurts people is lame and petty in hindsight. I don't get a lot of these bad vibes inworld -- it's mostly here, as some experienced SL journeyers have pointed out to me, and which I have now discovered for myself. Whenever I think about this hostility, it's depressing because there is SO much pain and suffering in the world already going on, and I hate to see even more of it.I'll give you some background: my Dad died before my eyes on his deathbed. In the years previous, I watched him go from a strong, healthy man, to a weak cripple who cried out in pain because his legs hurt so much (he had liver failure, among other problems due to Hepatitis B). It was so heartbreaking watching my Father try to do his favorite things and giving up because he was out of strength, and simply gave up. He couldn't go any further. His legs were swollen; his eyes, jaundiced, his hands an ugly knot of torture. And then, the journey ended, as I watched him on his bed, crying out that he didn't want to die, and that he was sorry to my Mom he couldn't be around longer. I cried too.I have seen much agony in my lifetime, and I know there will be much more. When I think about this drama, I then flip to one of my bookmarks -- say, Rotten.com or Ogrish even, and more -- and then peruse the archives of gory images. Not to be sensationalized or thrilled in any fashion, but to be repeatedly reminded of the horrors that happen in this world, the very real physical pain which is connected to the emotional... it's all connected. I look at photos of crime scenes where loved ones are wailing, or mass diasters. I go through evisceration after beheading after murder, and it reinforces in me, of how these are all pathways into human hurt. Conflict is a part of life, yeah. But I don't wanna be part of something that's gonna hurt my fellow human beings deliberately and cruelly. If we make mistakes, I hope we can at least learn from them so something good comes out of the darkness. This is why I do what I do.

- Ace No, not for over two weeks, and not for at least a week more. Bad food last night and bad day at work contributed to my limited tolerance for some threads. I was trying to get answers in one but got labelled a troll no matter what I said so I reacted to that.
