because the sim you've entered is closed down"

Ah....

Yada yada yada beta and all, but dang that was rude.

I wish I was forwarned of the built-in Linden mean streak.

My girlfriend is passed out, so's my dog. I'm bored outta my freakin skull. Had many a plan for SL tonight. But no.

Fanboys, please refrain from responding, as I'd like an expanation from those that have my sacred credit info.

Lindens?

Second Life is only open between 12pm and 12am Pacific Standard Time so you probably got logged out when it shut down for the night.

The log in server closes but the sims stay live. You can stay on as long as you like provided a sim doesnt crash and you stay active. 30mins of inactivity will log you out. I have not run into what Spleef had but I would be bummed if I crossed into a sim and got that message. It would be cool if a sim were down or in the process of resetting if you were bumped out like when a sim was full rather than being logged. Is that a possibility? Otherwise yes, after or before 12 you're SOL.

yes, i would like to see some sort of system (i know this may take time to implement) where neighboring sims will keep track of avatars in one or two other neighboring sims... should the client detect the sim it was in went *POOF*, it will then ask the monitoring sim for permission to teleport in from the crash, at which point they will be placed at a random point on public or linden-owned land (to keep from putting them inside houses, etc -- i don't know of any sim that has 0 public land available AND no linden-owned land).

this would require that the client keep track of what sims are monitoring what sims (otherwise you'd have to have every sim monitoring all four neighbors, and that would be way too intensive 99% of the time)... perhaps a little database indicating which sim is watching which could be downloaded at login time, so the client will know where to go in case of a crash.

there are probably some holes and other flaws in this idea, but i think it's a foundation on which to build a much more user-friendly sim-crash-catcher.

Actually I had entered a new sim...

and did get that message, wasn't angry at all, as I was just experimenting. But I did get logged out for entering a closed sim. Bug or SOP for now?
