What should i buy for mother's day????

my mom was operated like 2 weeks ago, she is fine now, i was wondering what should i buy for her for mother's day?? lol flowers seem to be the "Usual" mother's day present... lol any suggestions? lol thankies :)

Flowers are nice, but they die, which is probably not the message people should be sending to their mothers! :D

I'd recommend something crafty. Scrapbook supplies, mosaic kits, glass etching kits, etc etc. Something to occupy the mind without taxing the body, and allowing her to have a bunch of cool little things when she's done.

It really all depends on what your mom likes. For gifts, I often buy my mom the perfume she likes (Red Door by Elizabeth Arden) or antique jewelry or magazine subscriptions or cookbooks or gift certificates to restaurants she likes or even clothing (mostly just a nice blouse and then I buy it at a department store and ship the receipt with it so she can return it if it doesn't fit).

My mom doesn't like cut flowers, but I have had good success with having a local florist deliver to her a potted arrangement of plants that was sort of decorated. For this Mother's Day, I sent her a gift certificate to Home Depot since I know my parents are doing some home repairs and updates.

(And since I'm a mom, I can say that the top things I like to receive as gifts are chocolate, books and magazines, and computer components/software. :) )

Gifts are way overrated. Some alternate ideas that she might appreciate more than a standard gift:
Take her out for a nice dinner.
Invite her to your place for a home-cooked meal.
Send/give her new pictures of you/you and your family.
Call her, tell her you love her, and thank her for going through 18+ years of hell raising you.
A homemade gift, if you do any kind of crafting.

My mom gets the phonecall, if I happen to remember. Imo, mother's day exists primarily to enable corporations to sell more crap, like most holidays. :rolleyes:

Movies are always good. For my mother I picked up DVDs of Ladder 49 and Get Shorty. She's a huge John Travolta fan. :)

Make her breakfast. Afterward, sit around and go through the old photo albums and have her tell you about whatever she feels like.

If you do flowers, get potted, live flowers - not cut.

Write her a really nice letter telling her about the happiest times, spent with her, that you had as a child. My baby brother (I was his guardian and raised him), he did this for me and it was really awesome. I will hold onto it forever. Also cook a meal for her. My brother has done this for me too (just don't leave her all the dishes to clean up).

The other really cool thing I got from him one year is that he came over to my house and washed all my windows. ;) My baby brother rocks!
