I'm using the Default Media Texture, which I've copied into my inventory rather than leaving it in my Library. I make a cube, put the texture on it, go to About Land, set up my info, and I just get a grey texture when I click my little play button. I'm not using the media player that came from the library, just the little play button on the bottom of the screen, like the one I use for audio. I've looked at the WIKI and I've searched through these forums already. (Yes, my machine is plugged in...)
Anyway, I'm not making my own movies. I'm trying to stream the same movie that one of my neighbors is streaming, and he isn't using a set of media buttons either. I also checked to see if he's using scripts, and he isn't. It's a prim with a texture on it, just like the instructions say to do.
I can get the movie to play on his property, and in an Internet Explorer window, but not on a prim. Has this happened to anyone else? This is supposed to be simple, but it's just not happening for me. Is it important which step I do first, or something? I have to be missing the boat somewhere...

Tried Live Help and Jillian Callahan came to the rescue. I was copying the url straight out of Internet Explorer, but that's not the "real" url. You have to view the source code and get the true url for the video it's embedding.
Anyway, I'm okay now. If you'll all excuse me, I have some public domain Popeye cartoons to wax nostalgic over...

What is the file format? Do you have quicktime? If not you need it. Is the movie the right format? mov or mp4 will generally work. Try the file in Quicktime. Does it play in Quicktime Player? If not it may be a bad file, or url. Edit: I see you got help Great..
