Three competitions.
Speed: you have 4 minutes to create your rendition of the named item. This contest has nothing to do with style, just SPEED. Caveat: the judges need to be able to tell what it is.
Ingenuity: given 13 primitives, only use three different kinds(any combination, ex. 3 boxes, 2 spheres, and 8 toroids) to create the object the judges named in 15 minutes.
Style: use an indeterminate number of primitives, any version, any textures, scripts, whatever, to create the item requested. You have 30 minutes.
well that is at least my suggestion.

Oh this would be a fun event (to watch, for me!).
A spin-off event could be Guided Build-Off, where a good, established builder teams up with a still wet behind the ears new resident -- the newb does the actual building, while the oldbie "directs".
