I may be purchasing an account for my godson's cousin that stays with us. He has shown a great deal of interest when I'm in SL and I thought it might be good for him. What I'm wondering is, do any of you that create content for the adult grid allow your child use of your textures, animations, etc in the teen grid for their use? Would that be considered too much association with the adult grid?
I know they're allowed to create content and I could very well help him to do that in photoshop but I'm curious about how everything works. The last thing I want to do is get him banned or myself for that matter. I want to be there to help and guide him but at the same time it feels kind of like doing his homework for him lol.

Im interested about this too.
I recently signed my little brother up for the teen grid and he is loving it, but he's wondering if he can get certain clothing/items of mine to use there. Clothes I could easily give him to upload, but that might not be allowed :-/
Also, (unrelated) my brother informed me that there are certain things of mine on the teen grid that he has seen as freebies... I am miffed how some of my creations are mod/copy/transfer freebies on teen grid when I didn't donate them... interesting.

From: someone I'd like to issue a reminder that the Teen Grid is for Teens....specifically, those from 13 through 17 years of age. Any adult who knowingly contacts or sends content to a teen will be given a single warning before they are permanently removed from SL. Any adult who creates an account on the Teen Grid will find that all of their accounts are immediately deleted and they are permanently removed from SL. Should an adult attempt to contact a Teen in any mature context, their local authorities will be notified.
Blue Linden said that, you might want to contact him, he runs the Teen grid, i believe!

My 2nd cousin twice removed on my dads side mentioned briefly that he thought that 3d was kewl. I would like to get him an account on the TG. He wants to be the only reseller of my creations on the TG, but has agreed to give me a 20% kickback on goods sold threw pay pal. ROFL I've become so cynical in my old age. The above was in fact a joke. happy Sunday.

Torrid,
My advice on anything dealing with the teen grid would be to contact Robin Harper directly - you can email her at robin@lindenlab.com . The main point about the teen grid is that as long as you personally are not using the account to access the teen grid, you are fine. Check with her on the specifics though. Any dealings I have had with the teen grid I ran by her to be certain.

Blue has been doing a lot of thinking about this, so he'd be my recommendation on a point of contact. I know Beau Perkins has been wrestling with some of these same issues with his G rated animations and whether or not his son can use them.
Its an interesting question; should the teens be held up to the standard of creating themselves, obtaining full rights to use something already created... when the main grid doesn't often adhere to those requirements?

With a teen relative on the TG, I know for a fact that a large percentage of the Junkyard freebies are over there now - which includes clothing, animations, vehicles, etc. To be sure, one "enterprising" young turk just established a TG Junkyard with exactly that content. So, if it was in Yadni's Junkyard, consider it exposed and distributed on the TG already.
Other items have been observed, transferred intact via a "refugees" inventory transfer, and then meticulously copied prim for prim in the sandbox. There's apparently going to be ZERO Linden Liason action against such copying. There's certainly no action being taken against selling the Mini Moke freebie vehicle in a stall at Busy Ben's for $300L!!!
Luskwood av heads have been copied prim for prim and are being sold - there's zero question of that. There's a furry skin - not sure who originated it on the main grid - that is being sold on the TG and I am 90% certain that it was not created by the resident selling it on the TG.
As for clothes, what my teen relative was told by Blue Linden and by Deana Linden was that - within the conifnes of "PG" appearance - if an adult/main gridder makes a texture for the main grid, there is NO prohibition against uploading that texture to the TG also, just pay the fee.
That being said, there is already a serious "former main grid adult imposter" versus "teen resident who was never on the main grid in violation of the TOS" problem. This problem has raised its head in cliquishness, jeaslousy, sniping, commercial advantage and creativity stifling. If you can't or haven't looked over the shoulder of a teen on the TG to see that, well, either take my word for it or find someone who does have such access.
Be aware that while Robin Sojourner's texture tutorial is over there, there remains no equivalent to an Ivory Tower of Primitives despite repeated requests and assurances that that was being worked on.
It is also important to be aware, apparently, that a number of "well-known/infamous" former MG residents ARE over there - both for good and ill as far as the TG's growth is concerned. The "refugees" are much more commercially oriented than those who were never on the MG, it seems. There appears to be a definite pecking order, from my relative's comments - true newbs are so far "out of sight" that the few classes on building which are held are interrupted to the point of being sparsely attended, and if attended, almost useless due to the interriptions. "Look what I made", push gun and multi-tool use/abuse and noise/chat spamming made one class I watched my relative attend literally pointless even after editing a chat history log.
Personally, I have shown my relative the main grid, how to make his/her (trying to conceal his/her identity due to wanting to keep the two of us separate reputation wise [both good and bad]) own textures in Photoshop AND a few building tricks. But how do I pass a script to him/her that can compete with a Huns Valen, Jilian Callahan or Cubey Terra vehicle performacnce - even as a no mod version? I can't - and apparently no one else can either. But some of the refugees have them - and, it seems, a few of those are moddable! (legally or otherwise, I don't know)
If I were a well-known content creator, I would figure that all of my content that CAN be snatched via an illegal alt account created by a teen here on the main grid WILL be snatched, copied and distributed for profit (not by you) over there. I say this because I was given a screenshot from the TG of one of the few things I was proud of creating over here - item copied to the smallest detail.
All of the above comes down to this - helping out a teen relative, however small the assistance, only creates a larger divide between those who lied and were on the MG already/have relatives on the MG and those who never were and don't. It's a fairness consideration to some extent. Helping out relatives, friends, etc. on the TG simply reinforces that divide IMO.
From what I have seen of the TG, watching over the shoulder as he/she plays, of the TG forums (via posts cut and carboned to me, I I haee come to the conclusion that LL was not and remains not ready for prime time as far as content protection goes, on the MG, on the TG or between the two. Heck, residents on this forum have publicly stated that they are looking for ways to transfer items (for fun AND profit I am sure) to the TG. MG-refugees on the TG have certainly posted discussions of such activity on their forums.
Proceed at your own risk.

Hmm Catherine, great "joke". Maybe I should use him to break *Torrid Wear* into the TG and then I'll be famous and rich! Anyways, thanks for the sincere responses and help, I'll be sure to contact Robin or Blue with any questions.

My son is on the teen grid and I really wish they made it possible for me to communicate and help him. From everything I have been told, no one is authorized to give items to someone on the teen grid, if caught you will be banned. I did give my son some of my BVH files to upload himself and some scripts via notecard tho.

From: Torrid Midnight do any of you that create content for the adult grid allow your child use of your textures, animations, etc in the teen grid for their use? Would that be considered too much association with the adult grid? It's certainly not against the rules to share your time, talent, scripts, sounds and animations (the PG ones anyway) with family and friends on teen grid. In fact, we encourage you to be active in helping any resident with their Second Life. Just be sure to help members of the other grid via some means outside of SL. /invalid_link.htmlFrom: Damien Fate I am miffed how some of my creations are mod/copy/transfer freebies on teen grid when I didn't donate them... interesting. Teens transferred with inventory often have, like most residents, some of the free content distributed on the main grid. If you believe some of your content is there without your approval, please contact me directly and I will make sure that it is not listed in the "approved content" filter. We will, of course, do our best to make sure that said items are removed. From: Picabo Hedges There's apparently going to be ZERO Linden Liason action against such copying. There's certainly no action being taken against selling the Mini Moke freebie vehicle in a stall at Busy Ben's for $300L!!! This is simply not true. Liaisons regularly discourage teens from selling freebies. Those who make use of Boardman-like sales stalls lose the privelege after the first warning to sell only their own creations. Mini Moke was generously donated to the Teen Grid by Garth Fairlight as full mod/copy. One enterprising teen has gone ahead and made what I refer to as SuperMoke (L$100) and MaxiMoke($10) variations...modifications of both the script and the objects. I encourage residents to learn without reinventing the wheel, as it were, where permitted. From: Picabo Hedges Luskwood av heads have been copied prim for prim and are being sold - there's zero question of that. There's a furry skin - not sure who originated it on the main grid - that is being sold on the TG and I am 90% certain that it was not created by the resident selling it on the TG. These statements are also simply not true. The furry skin WAS created by the teen who sells it. The Luskwood head in question was NOT copied prim by prim, it was a permission bug. Copies made have Liam as the creator and leave a "paper trail"....We tracked down and deleting them upon the creator's request. I have yet to see anything copied prim by prim on the teen grid. Very few teens have the will to reproduce anything complicated, in minute detail, to sell in an economy where most items are available for $50 or less. They are smarter than that From: Picabo Hedges I haee come to the conclusion that LL was not and remains not ready for prime time as far as content protection goes, on the MG, on the TG or between the two. Everything that moves between grids is documented. It's that simple. Whether or not you agree that main grid transfers should be allowed to keep their inventories, please be assured that we have every intention of protecting the copyrights of the content's creators. From: Picabo Hedges I say this because I was given a screenshot from the TG of one of the few things I was proud of creating over here - item copied to the smallest detail. Please contact me directly with more information on the item and I will see to it personally that it is removed from the grid. -Blue
