What are your loyalties?

We hear a lot of appeals to nationalism, Gawd and family. Some people cheer for their ideological group or sub-culture above all else. Others believe greed and deceit are in their best interests, "looking out for #1."

So what are your loyalties? Do you put the people of your nation before people in general? Do you put one person and/or entity above all others?

Mine go something like this:

1. All living things and other forms of consciousness

2. humanity

3. family and close friends

4. geographic community

5. ideological community

6. nation

If #6 acts contrary to the interests of #s 1-5, we've got a problem. Likewise, if number three sides against #s 1 or 2, my loyalty ebbs. Don't hold me to this list for life, but it looks about right ATM

Kinda the same loyalty conditions as yours, except i'm rarely in a position where being loyal to one of them subverts my loyalty to the others. For example, "other living things" is #5, but not stepping on that ant on the sidewalk won't conflict with any of the others.

Edit: Changed the ranking some, since with small exceptions in issues, the people of my nation share the same ideology as I do... regardless of what you hear from the mudslingers on each side.

Interesting seeing this thread after seeing yet another extreme right wing discussion in another. Nice balance Vudu I'm not going to list my loyalties other than to say those closest to you are the most important in my opinion.

As for the virus we call humanity ... pass me my soapbox!

10) The USA
11) North America
12) Central America
13) South America
14) The rest of the world
15) Me

In that order!

My loyalties...

1) me (healthy self interest prevents people from being a burden on others)
2) The people I love (my friends and family)
3) Everyone else (regardless of who they are, where they are, or what they believe... unless they intend harm to 1 or 2).

Outside of people I have a direct personal relationship with I see everyone else as equal. I believe if proximity dictates loyalty then you're already half way to xenophobia.

Yep. That's about how I see it too. Although I would say I have more affinity to people who share my cultural values, I wouldn't claim any sort of loyalty to them. Seeing human life as a team sport is very hazardous, because we're playing for keeps.

I don’t care about same cultural values stuff. I just see I would rather help people by me more then people away from me. More money going locally would help build your local community helping your family.

SO many things are important to me. My loyalties are....

1)My husband and my girls
2)My health
3)some of my family members
4)immigrant rights
5)human rights
6)And everyone who has nothing but love to give to one

Oh and but of course the Cartel family

At first I thought this was a very difficult list to make and then I realized that for me, it's actually pretty simple.

I would do anything for my family, the beings that I love.

Nothing else, except my own health and well being matter to me. My concern for my community, the nation I live in or even the world revolves around and is directly related to, the survival, freedom and happiness of my family.

hmmmm...

3. My pet birds (although the one who keeps biting me is pushing his luck...)
4. People who have been kind to me
5. Everyone else (minus a the troublemakers)

1. Life liberty and the persuit of happyness..
2. Common sense
3. All people who are willing to stand up for the things listed here.
4. Knowledge learning and education.
5. The freedom of expression.
6. A reasonable expectation of safety and personal security and privacy.
7. Lots of guns


Certain things not listed such as friends and family are important and assumed.
