Severe, thats because every time we have an update, everyone downloads everything from scratch all over again. And that causes stress on the servers. It will slowly resume to normal as everyone have their cache full properly.

Wasn't it in the release notes somewhere a few dot releases back that SL no longer clears cache on install?

If the content hasn't changed, why does the cache need to be? Why can't it be saved and restored later or something? If the cache is only erased as a side effect of their HD imaging system, why not put the cache in a separate partition and replace only the software?

exactly my thoughts too Eggy... Would it ever be possible that a 'grid' was downloadable with the client so that the land would not need to be streamed to everyones computer when they enter the sim. But that would mean we would not be able to edit it because it would need to be redownloaded each time BLEHHHH I'm crashing every 5 mins with this new update, TP is borked and many textures won't load... HOWEVER, when a shiny object texture doesnt load, you get a cool transparent shiny object - now isn't that cool!
