Worth every Linden

At the welcome area tonight, Gray Mars is sitting off to the side minding his own business with one of the most amazing avatars I have ever seen. The table, tools, rock and monk dudes are all him. Really great attachment wizardry.



I rated him +3 without hesitation. His behavior was cool, appearance was awesome and the building talent to do this is evident.

Seeing "You have paid L$75" come up after the rating was a little shocking, but it was worth it. And Grey seemed happy to be rated.

While I don't agree with all of the changes made recently, I think that we should all do our part and keep rating people that deserve it (if we can afford it!).

That AV would definitely be worth L$75 to me too. Great work!

I first saw Grey as a derelict from Hellraiser, complete with shopping cart and Lament Configuration. I was sooo excited over this.

He's impressed me with his artistry ever since.

This is *exactly* why I think that raising the cost of giving ratings was a great idea. The people who get them, positive or negative, will be those who deserve them.

I spent L$25 rating that wonderful av - only because I'd already rated two ther times at the older price for similar acts of kewlitude on the part of Gray.

i agree that raising the charge to rate is a good idea...it will get rid of a lot of the rate whores...but 25 seems a little too high to me. what about the people who only get a 50 stipend? they aren't going to spend their whole stipend plus some to rate someone who really deserves it. rating is now going to be elitist.....only for the people who already have a ton of lindens & don't need the extra cash. from what i have seen in the forums over the last day or two the folks who are wholeheartedly excited over this change don't want the extra cash that rating provided anyway.

i think perhaps that making rating go toward a final weekly stipend should be eliminated completely & that rating should go up to like 5 lindens. this way there is no expectation of something to be received every week because you rated your ass off.....but also still makes it affordable for those who don't have a ton of cash to actually still be able to rate those who really deserve it.

The people who get them will come from those that can afford them.
I also want to add that Griefers have greater incentive to grief now as they may get a kick out of watching people spend their L$ to negative rate them.

The bonus stipend is there to reward those who get the positive ratings. The cost of giving a rating has to be greater than or equal to *the* reward SL gives, otherwise rate whoring will continue. The idea is, people who get rated are those who contribute positively to the game. Goto GOM spend 4 bucks and you'll have 1K to rate those who you feel deserve it. Maybe win the $L or build something people are willing to buy and sell it. If you want the $L do something to get it and don't expect it to be handed to you.


WOW AWESOME, I have no $L at all right now (gave it away last night,) but next stipend i'm finding this guy and giving a rating!!!

i don't believe that i ever said i wanted the lindens to hand me money......i do believe i said that other than your weekly 50 or 500 stipend extras should be done away with completely!!!!! how do you take that as me asking for a handout???? i've only been in the game for a few months & i AM learning how to use the tools. just looking at scripting makes my eyes bleed.....so that ain't gonna happen. i am learning how to use photoshop & i am learning how to build.

i take offense to your implication that unless everyone knows how to do these things that means that are not contributing positively to the game. just because i like to go clubs, socialize & meet new people doesn't mean that i am a drain on sl society. how exactly do you propose that i win lindens? i find that most contests regardless of what they are about are popularity contests. you can try your damndest to fit the criteria of the contest but the person who has the most firends there will win.

i pay my land tier fees, i pay my yearly subscription.... i shouldn't have to spend more than that on a game just so that i can positively rate people.

Sorry if that came across as a personal attack, it wasn't. I totally agree with you about everything you said. The fact of the matter is- rating costs $L25 if you want to rate you need to find another way to acquire lindens.
I have no idea what how much game money is given per rating point, I am willing to bet that's its way less than 25 though. If this is LL's way of trying to absorb $L its the most silly idea i've seen the cost is too high to create enough volume to really make any discernible difference in the economy that way. All it will do is decrease the bonus stipend. If Sl pays $L5/ rating point $L10 would be a pretty good cost to rate. Heck reward 4 and charge 5 it would allow people to rate, but make it unprofitable.

LL needs to give its premium members more $L, hell you guys pay for the servers anyway!!! And they need to design a better, more efficient way of reabsorbing said lindens. If the $L that are given out where absorbed more readily, then the market for $L on other sights would balance out at a more realistic value.

Lets make people really scream... put a $L5 "tax" on ALL (even gifts) non L$ transactions. $L5 isn't anything and the amount of transactions made in world would soak up the excess money out there now.
