Transfer new creations from preview to main grid?

I just posted a request for this to the hotline. I had just seen the announcement of how this was to be done from preview grid to preview grid, by transferring everything on the ground in a designated sim. This made me think it would be possible. The permissions-filtered owner-created-objects transfer would take place when the preview grid is closed, and the main grid updated.

Anybody else want it too ?

Here is the hotline post describing and requesting it:

If this were made possible, wouldn't this become a way for folks to get around the $10 upload fee, by using the "test" money in the preview grid, then having the resulting creations transfered to the MG?

Possibly I'm misunderstanding...

That's what came to my mind too, Travis. I spend a LOT of Lindens on uploads. It's the biggest money sink in the game for me, and probably for other designers and texturers too. I don't want there to be a way to bypass it.

If they allowed us to transfer items from Preview to Main, they would have to stop giving us money on the Preview grid, and that would mean we were unable to test anything that required money. I don't want that either.

Ya know, this might be a legit use for a copy-by-script system? Run a script that captures the paramiters of the thing you built in preview that will output that data to a text file that you paste and save on your local machine untill upgrade day. Then plug that data into a rezzing script, run it, and volia. You may have to redo any textures, since you'll still need to upload them to the main grid and pay the upload fees, and any scripts from the object can be copied onto your machine and pasted into the script editor on the main grid.

Why are you making production stuff on the Preview grid? That's not why it's there.

Yes travis answered my point, as far as land goes, there are three named sandbox regions, the other sims that were available mainly had build enabled and no return, there was also some land made available to purchase as public land, which is being expanded as needed, as the last preview premium land owners can uses existing tier or ask a linden for extra tier, basic member can ask a linden to be bumped up to premium and use the included tier, also the usual weekly stripend is paid. for uploads etc and purchases from shops etc as there are some malls available.

This is also the reason why content cant be taken back as its free money, purchasing goods which can be bought on the main grid, there wouldnt be much stopping your 5k worth of textures plus how many weeks of stripends and get together with friends and alts etc and boxing them together in the transfer sim and it begins to add up to quite a big monetary loss, the problem is they cant abolish the money as thats needed for uploads/groups when your testing, so they cant enable the email/comms system which would allow the gom atms etc to work etc

And i think most importantly, it should be remember that the preview grid is transitory, its liable to disruption, failure and faults, which may and has lead to sim being rolled back some days, so anything you have made is lost, but thats what preview is about you test the system there, find the bugs. If you make something nice there, you can copy most things, you already have the textures and sounds on your computer, scripts and notecards can be saved out as text documents and pasted into the main grid sl client. That just leaves prim shapes really.

From my understanding the type of save they are doing is called a sim state save, which is usually used to ship off the sim as is to another machine for testing etc, this will include all inventory in the sim, so when the database has been copied, they will recopy this state back into the grid as in the morris sim and therefore re-add this data back to the database.

As for quantity, well we had over 100 there on thursday and 80 odd a few days before, 97 were in morris right at the time they tried to tweak it for more and well tweaked it the wrong way lol, not sure if thats a record for amount of people in a sim, but was pretty good for an old sim that needs tuning, but back to your point i think there are a few different kinds of testers, all have their different needs and wants, from just being curious, to testing their products, to people who do serious bug testing.

I'm not a basic subscriber but i do like your idea of the land owning trial, but i do think its something that should be on the main grid due to the fact that if your trying to pursuade a customer of a product you want a stable platform, in the first few weeks of testing sims were down overnight etc and some all weekend as its not manned 24/7 luckily that better as they are more stable now

The preview grid is to test the new version - not a place to make things to keep. That idea would just makes more headaches for our Lindens, who need to concentrate on more important things.
