What do you think of the new splash screen that debuted with 1.6?

I think it's much prettier than the old one... but where is everybody?
Not an av or a build in sight.
Then again, considering some of the crude malls and rotating cube signage I've seen, maybe this is a good thing.

I'm for and against it at the same time. ;)

Seriously, on the plus side, it is very epic and shows a lot of scope.

The big downside is it lacks a glow and warmth that the old splash screen had to the gills, and it appears neutral and not very passionate.

It's very cool. The previous one had a nice balance with warm.
I'd like to see the splash screen changed more often, really. Not only landscapes, but builds, avatars, and whatnot. SL has alot to offer, and no single image can hope to encompass it.

I like it muchly. I think it's much nicer than the old one. It's very clean and compelling.

I've heard an estimate that the 2.0 rendering engine won't be out until Q4, so in my opinion it's a dirty trick :/

*wonders what Q4 is*

Well, it's good they switched to something new before people got sick of the old one; change is good in that way.

But I agree with Torley - it lacks warmth and invitingness, if that is a word.

And I agree with Torley that the best thing they could do would be switch around a series of these splash screens, showing a lot of what's in SL! There could be many very pretty scenes to use for these. Now that would be cool! And that way, having a few that look rather cold, dull and barren would be no problem at all, as they would be only a few of many, for variety's sake.

And while we're on the subject, they keep up the pictures of AVs on the forum pages too long, too. I was happy when they switched from the Fighting Marshmallow with Sticks picture (what was that thing?) to the Skull in a Battle Uniform picture, but now I'm getting tired of looking at that one, too.

And on the - what is it, Community page, I think - they have this red-headed fellow who looks like someone from the last century (at least I think it's still there, and I think he has red hair), and after a while, a person tends to get sick of looking at any particular avatar. Maybe providing an e-mail address where people could regularly submit screenshots of themselves and their friends would give them more to choose from, and they could change these more regularly, too.

I like that it's an empty vista without builds. It's like a blank canvas inviting you to come inside and fill it with stuff.

What about changing the splash screen monthly, like those in a photo calendar? Pictures of interesting things to be found in world that people might be interested seeing. And have a small caption giving the name of the build and the sim it is on?
If the screen pic rotates often, many places could be covered, minimizing the fear of favoritism. I have no idea if this is feasible, but if it is taken from a pic in world, it would not involve someone having to create the graphics- so perhaps not too labor intensive.

Er, why Marcos, was that you? Nothing personal! *insert embarrassed grin* I'd get sick of looking at any picture all the time, of anybody, lol. I even change my "set home here" thingie all the time so I don't keep seeing myself in the same clothes and the same pose every time I log on.

*tries to weasel out of it*
