Wow, once again I see the tax situation is taking out alot of money. I can't see staying in the game if all my money is getting eaten up by taxes. So like all people that end up being really broke by them I got rid of lots of land and 1 of my buildings. I guess maybe it's just better to build stuff and enjoy the way it looks in a certain area. Owning land and buildings, and lots of objects is like a penalty. I don't want to be penalized for owning things so I guess if things don't improve in the taxes dept, I'll happily be leaving this game at the end of my 3 months. I'm sure that will make many of you happy.

I can see the wisdom of having a tax system, but there's no doubt that it's also quite creatively limiting. I hope some middle ground can be reached.

![]() Im not a huge fan of the taxes either but they are there for a reason... Gotta make choices. Link and save stuff you dont want to kill altogether to inventory for a rainy day. Then, make new stuff. Repeat as necessary. _____________________

I know the taxes are kinda necessary but I don't particularly think they should be as high as they currently are. My idea would be to make a group and have everyone in the group add their taxes together and throw out the total figure. Then divide the total figure by however many group members in the group there is and contribute to where there was no tax. Then I thought well that probably wouldn;t work so I guess the tax situation will never really go away, hmmm just like real life.
I think that when a project is done, or a completed object that required alot of primitives should be rezzed at haf the value of the final price. Like say something someone made costed 500 bucks, set by them when the thing was done, it should only cost 250 to rezz it, instead of say 1700 because each prim costs 10 bucks to make. I don't have any problems making things that might cost me 1700 something to make cause if you're selling copies it only take about 4 copies to make your money off of and start profiting. Just seems rather dumb to have things cost as much as the number of primitives that the thing has. Does that make sense? or am I talking rubbish? |

Another tax post? Geesh. It's not a penalty to own things. You just need to take it slowly. I don't understand your proposed tax system. I think taxes are necessary and I'd prefer taxes in game to real world charges for building more. Because that's the only way you could have a viable business model if you want to run a game like this -- charge people for the primitives they use and the land they own in real world money. In essence, you'd be renting out space and bandwidth on their servers. I prefer the flat fee, where my accomplishments in world reflect how much I can build. I come out even with taxes. I come out ahead with sales. If you take it slow, think about what you want to build, sell some stuff, host some things, you'll come out ahead. It's not THAT hard, you just need some restraint.

as for paying

Well I agree there, if they did charge real world money I surely would quit the game, happily even. I know it was brought up before that, that was the proposed system and they changed it, luckily, as I would think it wouldn't be very popular to pay real bucks for something. Now I would be all for buying Linden money for real money if possible, but I wouldn;t go for any package deals.
As in if it were set packages where u had to spend a minimum of say 20 bucks real money to get a few thousand. I suppose I can live with measley bucks, and glad I can have the option to quit if I get sick of it. Which is already happening, getting tired of this already which us why I chose the small 3 month plan. To me, now this is my own personal opinion, don't care to hear anyone elses here, but to me this game just doesen't have what it takes to keep people hooked. There is something missing, and that is the ability to do something by onseself. I'm not a big fan of large groups of people, in fact I like doing things by myself not needing or wanting help from others. Although many will debate that doing group activities or working within a group may seem funner, to me it is not. I only need to be around 3-4 people at a time, any more than that, too many people. I think my opinion is alot of these new online games require, or put a large emphasis on team work. Well not saying I'm not a team player, I just never preferred large teams. I guess my quest to find a game that doesen't involve a large group of people to either be fun or more intersting will continue. I'll stay out my 3 months but I'm convinced I'll be leaving then. Will be giving my money to a very good friend when I do leave. Until this game becomes more user friendly, on an individual basis I won't come back. So I'll see where I stand in 3 months time. That's how I feel about this game, and feel better for letting it all out. End of post, end of opinion, don't wanna hear logic, don't wanna hear others opinion, just let this topic RIP. |

The thing that most people are missing when it comes to the prospect of buying Linden bucks is this....
Say you buy a few thousand and buy land and build to your hearts content. You will still have a money issue, only bigger. To cover the taxes you will run into the negative weekly until you once again run out of L$ and you will need to whip out the trusty cc to buy more. Its just silly IMHO. The best way is to build within your means and balance yourself. It *can* be done. If you want more you'll need to teach classes, sell stuff or get popular to afford more. _____________________

Mis - You're right, I think a system where you buy money from the Lindens would need to do away with taxes and such and deal entirely with real world money -> L$...
Neo - Well, here goes my opinion whether or not you want it. It sounds like you want to be able to do more without working for it. And while I can understand it and agree with it to some extent, I the solutions you propose give me the impression that you wouldn't be satisfied without a massive overhaul of a system that works for a lot of people... Fine, then, I guess I'll see ya. _____________________

If you want to work alone, get a copy of gmax and build to your hearts' content. SL revolves around group interactions and socialization; it's like me complaining about Street Fighter having too much street fighting in it for my tastes. |
