That's going to be just a guess, but if it's an item that causes a "drinking" animation to take effect, try to detach the item from your av's hand. I've already have similar items, that contain a script to animate your av, and removing the item will stop it. But, it's just a guess.

Thank you for the suggestion but i put the rum on a table - then deleted it. I have also tried bringing the rum out again and clicking on it, saying no to animation but still doing it. I appreciate you replying

If it asked for perms, it may well have not been an attachment, and was rezzed to the ground. You can use the 'release keys' button at the bottom of your console, or take the item back into inventory.
Note, if this is the case, it will only do the animation as long as you are in the same sim at best. And if this is the case, and it kept perms while you were logged off, it was undoubtedly spamming with an error while you were away, too.
Edit: you replied while I was typing... and given your explanation, I'm equally stumped o.o
Sure you didnt rez more than one?

Can anyone tell me how i stop this? The first step is admitting you have a problem...

Also you could try right clicking your avatar and select More - Detach All I think it is, this will detach all objects you're currently wearing, it may be a hidden prim on yah and lost somewhere in your inventory.
Other than that and the suggestions others have made... I've no ideas. If it still persists after all this, try IMing a Linden nextime you see one on.

drinking bug

There were some drinks that did appear to have a buggy script... my guess is that the drink you acquired had it...
After Flipper helps you get rid of it, make sure you delete the drink and find a "safer" form of libation. I have fixed all the ones I use at my events, if you find my in world I will gladly give you some "safe" and funs things to drink... Welcome to Second Life

Sure you didnt rez more than one? Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! I went to Ulrika's Octoberfest a couple of nights ago and everytime I go back into that sim to work on something, I start doing the chicken dance. Have you every tried to build while doing the chicken dance? It's not a pretty sight. I used every command I could think of - but I was unaware of what the 'release keys' button did. Rose

Rose LOL Well I'm glad I could help someone after all. And yes. I was once editing a dance machine while doing the chicken dance, and what with me spinning round but my 'editing arm' staying still, I eventually just tied my avatar in a knot. She still has a kink in her shoulder.
