We should have an an Enemies Management System, with an option in the pie menu to label someone as an enemy, a warning system alerting us to the presence of enemies, a reminder system to make sure that hold our grudges forever instead of forgiving unintentionally by forgetting what the problem was, and a system for detecting when we are in the presence of people with whom we have enemies in common, for probable inclusion in our friends list, since the enemy of one's enemy is said to be one's friend. We should have a reminder notice delivered on our enemies birthdays so that we can rue the day they were born. An Enemies Forum Utility would alert us to new posts in the Second Life forums and automatically run a spell check and grammar check on their posts to facilitate making thread diverting posts pointing out minor problems in their posts.
---- edit -------- she could at least have told me the right way to spell it....

Thanks for the correction, Ulrika. I'll edit it in a second.
Now what was I talking about again?

From: Ulrika Zugzwang You misspelled "facilitate". ~Ulrika~ You forgot to point out some places where I double spaced between words instead of single spaced. This is not necessarily bad, though; one might want to reserve some noted typos, mispellings and the like for a later time in the event the thread starts to return to it's intended course. Also, the thread starter's initial post (i.e., my post) would have been more effective if it had been broken up a bit, in my view; it is kind of blocky and monolithic looking.

I try not to quite notice who my enemies are, because I tend to be inclined to forgive and forget, or at least WANT to have that option. But after a bit, you can't help but notice that some are more enemy-like than others. The most puzzling thing are the friend/enemies. The ones who like you plenty one day, and the next day are excoriating you for something that's not really that big a deal. Still, even in that case, if they're friendly the next day, then hey, we'll go back to friendly. (If a tad more distant on my part.) coco

lol, I like this idea, it would be funny as hell! Is it for the forums too? We need a Forum Flame Warrior Control Center. (FFWCC) It can be used to wage war against our forum opponents ... (anyone who disagrees with us, once or more)! How about a feature to automatically respond to any post by an "enemy" with a pre-written, automated "HATE POST" which posts some random insults and/or a custom insult as a response? Also, it should implement a system that allows us to label other forum users. And assign a threat level to them, so that when we see a high priority threat color next to their posts, we know to be on high alert and such! I propose: Severe (Red) High (Orange) Elevated (Yellow) Guarded (Blue) Low (Green)

Oooh... an advanced feature could be an Automated Debate System (ADS)! When someone designated as an "enemy" makes a post, the ADS springs into action...even while you're asleep! It automagically parses the enemy post, looking for loopholes and flaws (including spelling or grammatical errors). When it finds some, it generates a counter-post which attempts to discredit and tear down any points the "enemy" post tried to make. If no flaws are found (perhaps the enemy opinion was actually correct!!), the AST (Automated Shit Talker) emergency system is activated. The AST is the last line of defense, but is very efficient at generating massive amounts of bullshit, propaganda, generic insults, personal attacks, hate posts, and general Shit Talk(c). AST generated responses are automagically posted under your forum ID, should one of your forum enemies actually be RIGHT about something (which of course you could never admit to). Thus, it enables you to avoid spending hours in pointless flame wars that go on for 5 pages of posts without you having to spend any time at all, even if you are wrong!

Once again, SuezanneC has made one of the more insightful observations around.
What I've always noticed about my enemies is they have the dirty filthy insidious habit of only showing their true colors once or twice, then pretending ever after to be good and decent people, as if their true lousy self had been the aberration of an overly stressful day or something.
I always misspell "necessary". Never could keep the "c" and "s" straight, let alone how many of each go into that hateful word. It's one of the reasons I'm able to post my drivel to the forums with flame proof impunity and walk the grid a ghostly pariah. I get to live my unfortunate life freely, and nobody is there to be molested by that. So everyone's happy. If the SL's Illiterate Flag from the pie menu works so well, then surely an Enemy Flag will too.
This is a feature to which I will be delighted to throw all my votes.

Hi Vestalia

Pariah would be a nice first name for an av, wouldn't it? I think ScapeGoat would also be a nice first name, it would be fun to listen to ScapeGoat whine about being picked on and singled out as the target of blame.

lol Suzanne There are 1 or 2 forum posters who I would love to see abducted by aliens, never to return but in the unlikely chance of that happening, I just refuse to respond to these people's posts directly. It works for me Alexa

From: Alexa Hope There are 1 or 2 forum posters who I would love to see abducted by aliens, never to return but in the unlikely chance of that happening, I just refuse to respond to these people's posts directly. It works for me I value the diversity in this forum and make it a personal challenge to seek intelligent dialogue with all. I don't know if I could exist in the forums responding only to those with whom I shared common views. It seems like such an insular and unchallenging way to go through life. As for the enemy management system, I don't think it should be codified into the game. Not only because it codifies a negative aspect of human interaction (and thus could contribute to in-world conflicts), it would also take time away from working on features and bugs that are more important. ~Ulrika~

Who needs a management system when memory works just as well? That is, unless you are one of those people who won't hold a grudge for a hundred years (And who wants to be one of those anyway? (They obviously have no principles if they can just forgive previous transgressions like they were nothing. (No really, I'm serious...I think))). What we should really work toward is a system for standardizing the expression of parenthetical parenthetical parentheticals. I propose movable 3-d prose trees.

Well, I don't think forgiving past transgressions is necessarily a sign of having no principles. I think things on the Internet, like this forum, where people can get intensely involved over ideas, and yet they absolutely don't know each other, have to involve a certain amount of give and take. You can't see each other, you may not know each other in the game, etc. I think it's is important for everyone to give extra chances all around, given the lack of info we have to begin with. coco

Vestalia, you spelled deceive "decieve" in your" reason for editing" note. Errors of this sort and magnitude cast serious doubt on the validity of everthing else you have ever said in your whole life to anyone anywhere with the sole exception of the nice things you have said about me.
I am reasonably sure that if we look closely through the "reaon for editing" notes we will find many a flaw and error that needs pointing out. I propose that all who wish to search through the "reason for editing" notes to make comments about, and that we coordinate our efforts by starting at the oldest posts and working our way forwards. Because time is scarce, it might be best to restrict our efforts to the threads most likely to contain the most errors. One cause of errors in writing is the author being in a highly emotional state; many times such an emotional state is produced by common violations of netiquette and common courtesy, such as flaming, trolling, etc. So threads with a lot of "that stuff" as it it somtimes refererred to in this sentence are the ones to examine and revive, don't ya think? Or do'nchya?
