Can the forums be addictive?

Last night I woke up to take a trip to the bathroom and had to go pass my desktop computer. I was so tempted to wake it up and check what was going on on the Forums. With great effort, I resisted.

I guess what I want to know is if anyone else is as addicted as I am. I have decided to try to regain some balance and spend time away from the forums.

I admit they are a good source of information, but I think we all need balance in everytthing we do.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?
Yes, it's true, I have a blog now!

I think it's the same as anything that fascinates, compels, or even repells you...you find yourself drawn to it over and over. And it's not odd to have the urge to check the forums, it's if you get up every hour on the hour and do it that would be incredibly over the top. Now, that 3 a.m. forum fix, totally acceptable. *grin*

I don't think you need to go anywhere April. :)

Personally, I can take them or leave them. But I admit to being endlessly fascinated by the humanity that is on display in any forum. Also, the many instances wherein textbook scenarios from sociology are enacted.

When I find myself tempted to get more vested than would be healthy, I take a vacation from them. Or leave them entirely. Life's too short to spend energy on truly being angered, upset, or otherwise affected by them.

I'd say a lot of forum addicts are stuck at work, or otherwise unable to get in-world. The forums help them look busy, as opposed to sitting slack-jawed in their cubicles, dreaming of wooden cubes and cut torii...

Coworkers notice when you're so out of it you drool. Trust me on this one... :p

Edit: Now, when you're staying late at work to cruise the forums, as opposed to using company bandwidth to get in-world? Then you've got a problem.
