I was reading Gamespy's review of SL (because of the fact that the SL wedding was shown on the site) and I came across this sentence... "...and you could even upload your own dance moves to show off your Travolta-like rhythm." Scuze me?! Was this an old feature that isn't there anymore or is it still around and we just don't know how.... Just wondering

Ah, I don't think we have that feature yet!

You can make your own gestures though right? There's that cigarette smoking thing that a few people are using, and it has a custom gesture where the avatar's hand brings the cig to it's mouth and takes a puff.
Was that created from scratch? I personally haven't had a chance to check out gestures much, so I'm a little in the dark about it myself. But I was saying last night it'd be nice if I could create a diving + swimming movement to use when I'm having fun in the water, hehe.

Hi Lifers - The cigarette mentioned above is an example of using a script to trigger an animation currently in the system. It’s very cool and I was excited to see it being used by Residents. To get to your other question - ah yes, uploading animations. On the "to-do" list but not in the near future as it involves a good deal of work. However, we do have some neat stuff coming up involving the addition of some significant new animations and linking emotes to gestures (e.g. when you stick your tongue out you will also wave your hands to go “nyah-nyah.” Just don’t do it at the dinner table

Yeah, who made the cigarette? It's the best thing ever invented ever.

There are quite a lot of animations available already that scripted objects can trigger when they are attached to avatars. You can see the reasonably descriptive names of the animations in ...\Second Life\Motions\ (Edit, hey, I just noticed that there are left and right-handed versions of the gun animations in there!) (Edit 2: I should really read all the replies before posting my own. I see that hunter answered this hours ago. BTW, I was able to make the smoke because the sword script showed how to trigger animations. It seems when the Lindens think we aren't making good use of some scripting feature, they seed the world with an example [the sword, the aiming gun, and now the animation examples], and I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you. It's one thing to say "this spiffy new thing is available so go use it" and "here is how you use this spiffy new thing". )
