HI! I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes.
I've been taking some snapshots, and even though i don't erase them, i haven't been able to find them..where do they go?,
and also, if I wanna put my avatar pic in my profile, how do i do that? I've clicked it twice, but the menu that pops up, doesn't have any pictures...
thanks!

If you aren't saving them to disk, then they should be in your Photo Album in your inventory. To put a pic in your profile, drag a snapshot from your photo album (or a texture) onto the picture space in the profile.

Do a windows search for "snapshot".

It's probably in your default folder My Pictures

FRIENDLY GREETINGS UMA

Each time you login to SL and take a snapshot, if you choose SNAPSHOT TO DISK, it'll ask you which directory you wanna save to. Just remember that and look for it, the first one's specifically named Snapshot_001.bmp.

If you want to use a pic in your SL profile, then what u can do is clickity click the Snapshot button, and instead you should press SAVE AS TEXTURE. It will end up in your Photo Album folder, appropriately enough. From there read what Alan said.

Cheerio!

about snapshots ...
09-29-2005 23:36
I took several snapshots that went to the desktop automatically after I chose "save to disk"and not into my photo albums inventory folder, so is there a way to still use those snapshots in my profile or place them into inventory for later use? Also why doesnt it give me the option to save as a texture on each snapshot I take, it only pops up the option to save after about every 5th snapshot or so ... is there a setting to change that from happening so I dont lose the chance to share a funny photo with friends if it goes to the desktop with out asking where id like it to go? Thanx for taking the time to reply and read my "newbie" questions :)

GOOD DAY TO YOU BEEZER

Answer is YES there is!!! SL supports uploading of BMPs so what you need to do is choose UPLOAD IMAGE from your FILE menu in SL and then find the image, and UPLOAD it! That's the basics. An advantage of saving the image to hard drive is you can touch it up and edit it with a graphical proggie and then upload the tweaked version in.

If you click the SNAPSHOT button (or Ctrl-Shift-S, which I prefer) you should always see that option dialog of where you wanna save it come up. I'm not sure what you mean by "every 5th snapshot" unless you are doing something different.

Cheerio! :)

Hit Ctrl-Shift-S to take a snapshot or push SNAPSHOT button.

Then, see where it says SNAPSHOT TO DISK?

Click that, pick a location, and each pic you take from that time on during the same login will be saved there. If you want to change location, just relog.

This is an important tip about saving to disk. DO NOT save them in your default Second Life program folder. Make a new folder for your snapshots in "My Documents" or your desktop, or anywhere, EXCEPT your Second Life program folder.

This is why... When we have updates to the program (1.7 is pending after testing) the new version over writes the files in the existing SL folder and it will overwrite and delete any unnecesary files (your pictures). Many have lost an assortment of saved pics to updates, so keep your SL pics out of your SL program folder!

There are a alternativ in the debug meny - named - High Res Snapshot

Can any one explain what that is and what type of HR file you get by using that option???

BTW - Pics send to you from another person.. when you save them (keep) they get into the texture folder...

Open the snapshot in SL.... go to left ”file” meny search for ”save texture as...”.. thats it...

You get that where to save at your HD....

Good Luck!

Sure, basically, you get a whopping file that's about 80 (could be more or less depending on your base resolution) megs and VERY finely-detailed. It'll look considerably smoother than just doing a "normal" screen capture when printed. I recommend you give it a snap for yourself... it takes awhile and your computer will freeze while taking the picture. Sometimes if the hard drive gets interrupted, it won't save right, so just do it again. Also, a tip with this is: WAIT for the area you're in to rez in, because tiny mistakes get magnified.

O good tip... yeah, it'd be a shame to lose memories like that. :(

One thing to remember is photos/textures you do SAVE TEXTURE AS must be FULLY permissible. If they're NOCOPY or anything like that it won't work... sometimes this comes up if a friend sends you a photo that isn't fullperms, for whatever reason (the menu item will be grayed out). ^_^

Snapshot THANX

WoooT - TY Tor for the help! It all makes sense now lol. What I meant by the every "5th" was that the box that pops up after a snapshot that asks what one would like to do with the snapshot (ie save to disk, save as texture, new snapshot ) would only "pop up" after every 5th snapshot that I took and not with each and every time I clicked on the snapshot button, but thats ok since I can always choose the upload button from file menu now :)

At the Metaverse Messenger we routinely use the Hi Res snapshot option... with SL set to run at 800x600 my results are a BMP file of 6144x4272 resolution, which is 75 MB. Needless to say, we crop and otherwise resize stuff a LOT. :D
