A simple, meek observation... Gosh forbid this should ever happen again, but if it does, I am very much in the favor of a couple of "Sticky" threads that Philip or Jeska or Haney or another member of the Linden family could attach to the top of the General forum column, so that it's viewed by many upon arrival. Or, I don't like popup ad spam, but if there was a friendly popup on the SL site or a mass email (a newsletter, in effect) communicating what is happening. The Announcements subforum has official news, but since the General forum is so ginormous and a lot of people are coming here, doing this would be a more effective way to spread the word and increase awareness of what is going on -- and also importantly, to cleanly consolidate the so many "WHAT'S GOING ON?" threads into one thoughtline. Additional threads started by fellow avatars dealing with the same thing would be merged into the big one, and discussion would continue. No doubt, it'd be a looong uberthread, but since many of the issues are redundant, it would be fitting. Even a temporary "THIS IS AN EMERGENCY -- PLEASE REMAIN CALM" FAQ would be great, and it could be updated on the fly as news breaks. Good communication is important.

I agree and think its a good idea. However I doubt it would help too much since very little people actualy pay attention to any already posted things and go straight to "New Topic" button. It might help if there was a pop up of some kind that basicly said "READ THE FUCKING STICKY POST, THEN START A NEW TOPIC" or some such. However the stupidity of people always grows no matter what you do unfortantly.

Couldn't have been said much better than that Oz. Great idea in theory...but people still just won't pay attention.

*sighs* Thanks guys... I just really don't "get" why this is so difficult. I know it happens, but I've never understood. It's like some loop-o-doom that destines humankind to redundancy. Like that movie Twelve Monkeys... or Casshern! If we each improve ourselves, and help each other -- is it really so hard? (Actually though, I've seen methods of stickied/merged threads work well on other websites, like TREKBBS.COM -- but they have FAR more active moderation due to, well, the amounts of flame wars that break out between Trekkies. I recommend them as a high-volume forum with exemplary administration.)

I think its a great idea! Anything that would make communication regarding downtime/outages more consistent certainly can't hurt Travis

Great idea Torley It should be a thread that takes up the whole screen and won't let you get to the forums until you've read it. That way it can't be ignored. Oh, and while I'm at it...........everybody please clean out your trash cans!!!!!
