Hi!
I logged out of SL when they said they were going to patch it in 5 minutes.
Now I logged in again adn it told em that I needed to download an update. I did that but when I installed the new version it said that the version already is installed and asked if I wanted to install it again.
And now, everytime I log in again I get the message that I need to install a new version. The version it lets me download is always the one already installed.

Since they've fiddled with the cache code this time around, we probably need to uninstall Second Life then download the setup and install it from scratch.
Assuming your using a Windows machine, you can uninstall as easily as deleting the Secondlife folders from "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Applicaiton Data"
Be sure to move any snapshots that may have saved in the directories and be prepared to reset your preferences. You'll also see a few of the orientation blue boxes pop up as you play the first few days.

Another possibility could be that they are not done yet with the update. The time frame scheduled is 6am to 12 Noon PST. I know I've downloaded updates in the past before they were ready, and then when I went back and re-downloaded the patch after it *was* ready, everything worked fine. Not saying this is the case this time, but it could be. Announcement found here: /3/05/55326/1.html

It isn't the real update. Wait, it should be completed ~12pm PST.

For shits and giggles I went and did the download thing... You start SL, which is down for maintanence... it prompts you to download the latest version, which at the time I did it was the LAST update.. it goes through and updates, you go back to SL and it says you need to update Simply put - the latest update isn't ready, its sending you the last one. My usual M.O. is to wait until the announcement then download -- or go to work, whichever comes first. Besides, after every update theres a mad rush to get on, the asshat server goes haywire, ppl lag, can't get inventory, scream about teleporting, and it's a general shitfight. As Chris Tucker said in Friday - And you KNOW this....MAN! I'd rather wait an extra hour or so then log in at my leisure with fewer issues. Siggy.

Wait until the update is done, in 3 more hours. (12 PST). Any attempts before then are bound to be futile -- and perhaps even a few after.

From: Nicola Mondrian Hi! I logged out of SL when they said they were going to patch it in 5 minutes. Alas it always takes longer than 5 minutes to patch. They normally take the service down for 6 hours. Sometimes it is up earlier and if so they will post it on the forums.

I think that message should have been read that they were taking the grid down IN FIVE MINUTES to to install the update....
That is : In five minutes you will be logged out.... so that the update can commence.

They meant they were going to begin patching it in 5 minutes, not have the patch completed in 5 minutes. Read the announcement in the Announcement forum. SL will be down until noonish, PST. Trying to download now is just spinning your wheels.
