I was just curious who else from SL is playing the WoW beta? I find the game very interesting and a challenge (I'm loving it so far). Very challenging since the only other type of on-line games I have played are TSO and SL. Reason asking, I'm lost, lonely, and DON'T GET IT! I did manage to make it to a lvl9 but I have no friggen clue about what I am suppose to really be doing. Although I like the game, people just don't seem to be as friendly or helpful there. Anyone willing to mebbe help me out and clue me in?

My BF played in the Open stress testing for that week or so they had it available. He really enjoyed it. He unfortunately was not accepted into the ongoing beta testing.
There should be websites out there to help you out. Do a search ? From what I remember while watching him play, it seemed he spent a lot of his time doing the quests or missions that various npc's give out. In doing them he gained experience and items. Some gave a lot of experience.
I loved the graphics, it is a beautiful game. It looked like fun too. I am just not ready to get back into a kill, loot, level kind of game.

I was an open beta tester, and it is a pretty game (kinda cartoony, but still pretty). WoW was nice, but a little dumbed down when compared with SWG, EQ, or AO. It kind of reminded me of CoH, in format. I've been finding myself stepping away from the MMO ('cept Second Life...of course) thing lately, they all seem universally to be a treadmill grind...typically with no real sense of achieving anything except higher stats or better stuff (er...um...l33t lewt, d00d *smacks himself*). I found that community involvment (for me) was better found in the FPS genre of games (I used to be addicted to Tribes2)...dunno, these are just my impressions.

The Open Beta y'all talk about was actually a stress test. The real Open Beta will start soon. Check the Official site for details.

I did the stress test thing for WoW, but I think you're asking a general question about the genre of MMORPG's. (WoW, EQ etc) I assume you're not familiar with how MMORPG's are played. You've gone as far as you can easily get soloing in the majority of MMORPG's, now it's time to start getting in groups. That can be tough if you don't know anybody, but try to get into a guild or Clan or whatever they call them in WoW. It's easier then. Now you're adventuring will be to get into a group and decide on a clear goal, usually going into a dungeon to either camp or crawl. A camp is plopping yourself down in one area and waiting for spawns to attack, a crawl is moving through the dungeon from beginning to end. From what I understand WoW is more geared toward crawls, but that's beside the point. Find yourself a guild to join, ask around, post on the boards that you're looking for one and why they'd want you. Guilds are goal-oriented for the most part and it's a lot easier to find groups of people to regulary adventure with, you;re able to learn and get used to each persons play style that way, you can be much more effective that way. The goals are of course to get higher levels, as well as targetting specific areas and monsters to attack for specific rewards. Have fun out there

If you really want to get into it, yes, join guild and go on some PvP raids. WoW will most likely stand out as the next MMORPG everyone will be playing. But ya, it's still a standard mmorpg with the grind fest. I had fun playing the stress test and will probably mess around in the open beta.

People are generally quite friendly on the PvP servers (eg Rallos). You sorta gotta be really.

Booo Hiiiisssss MMORPGS suck. The only good thing I can see about their existance is that they keep 13 yr old kiddies busy, and away from me. I just dont see what's so attractive about watching numbers grow bigger.

*yawn* bump and grind action. I think really the only one (in my opinion) that wasn't the usual bump and grind, was Planetside, alas, that went down hill real quick.

Planetside was fun, but got old real quick; at least when I was playing it there wasnt too much opportunity for levelling after level 12ish, since youd already maxed your specialities, and everything else was just a bonus. Like the concept tho. Favorite MMOG at the moment is Shattered Galaxy. Good for relaxing from dev and bashing things every so often. Bit more cerebral than many other games, whilst still being relaxing. You get xp whatever you do, so you can just enjoy wasting stuff Azelda

From: Kyada Satyr i played the stress test and got to lvl 15, i WILL get into the open beta, if i dont i will KILL someone DOn't forget to reapply. All the people in the stress test were dropped from elegibility for the open test. You have to start all over with a new application

I signed up for, but wasn't accepted into the closed beta. Maybe they didnt like the fact that I have beta tested so many other mmog's. I am watching for the open beta sign up like a Griffon. Here is a LONG thread about the open beta on the WoW site forums. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=392499&p=1#post392499There are a lot of closed beta folks whining about the announcement of open beta. Bear in mind Blizzard has given no specific date for open beta signups. What gets me is that alot of the folks crying about the coming of open beta are completely forgetting that open beta is still a TESTING period; hence the term "beta test". "OMG it's got bugs, it's not ready for more testing!" LMAO! Seems to me their complaints about the game not being ready for open beta are simply a thin veil for the "not wanting to lose their toy" syndrome. I.e., they realize that this means they will have to share, that they are one step closer to having to purchase the software and start paying a monthly charge, will lose the current state of little lag due to a small player base, not wanting to make room for other potential testers they want to label as "1337 kids', etc. I guess those of us who didn't get selected for closed beta are just moronic, net speaking, sugar addled losers and don't deserve to be in open beta because our nOObish and/or hAxXoRish ways will ruin the game. Whatever will these whiners do when it goes gold? I bet they won't be cancelling their accounts! I have heard this sentiment during many a beta tests. I have also heard many folks whine AFTER a game goes retail; "why should I be playing to play a beta test after it's gone retail?" That should be a rhetorical question. One which could be answered like this: "you don't have to, if it bothers you enough to rant about it you definately shouldn't be pouring RL$ into it." I would imagine most of those types don't cancel their accounts either. It's also important to point out that mmog's by nature are an ongoing work. There is no such thing as a patch free mmog that has gone retail, and my guess that any that tried have or will go belly up.
