I have been on the fence for the last month/month and a half about renewing my subscription. I just havent been interested in SL anymore.

It seems that once i learned the interface, and learned how to script, and learned how to build, all i ever do when i logon is hang out in the welcome area and help new users learn these things.

For me, the learning of the game was fun. Now that I know how, I'm bored to death in world.

I have actually been reading the forums everyday, whereas I only logon about once a week, for about a half an hour.

I have one question, and the answer to this question will determine if i stay or go. (My subscription expires in 1 wk).

I currently pay 14.95 a month. I own NO land in world.

How much will I have to pay each month to continuing owning NO land, but still play?

If someone could answer this for me I would appreciate it. My finger is over cancel account as we speak.

It all comes down to this:

How much will I have to pay each month to continuing owning NO land, but still play?

I believe Ama Omega answered this is another thread:

From: someone

You can pay $10 one time to get access to SL with no land and limited bonus.

You can pay $10 per month to get a small ammount of land, and 'normal' stipend bonus (which will be smaller with the reduced meaning of L$).

However, the $10 one time fee is for new users only.

I dont want any land! I want the $10 fee one time which gives me no land whatsoever. But I cant do this, because I'm already a user! (and therefore have been paying out the ass for a few months, dealing w/ terrible bugs, multiple client redownloads, etc..)

So my reward for being a user is that I get screwed into paying $10 a month, when a new user gets a $10 one time fee.

(I realize that I get some land w/ my $10 a month, but the whole point is: I DONT WANT IT.)

(I also realize that I am talking to myself on this thread.)

No worries. I'm out.

Too bad you couldn't just register under another name or something. I don't know if that would help at all...

As I understand it, your all ready set :)

All pre-existing users are grandfathered an allocation of 1024 sq. m.

I think you could stop paying, and still login with your account---

You will only have to pay AT ALL if you decide to go above your 1024 sq. m. lot.

Since you don't want any land, you won't have to pay.

We are being grandfathered in. New users will have to pay the $9.99 if they want a 'chat' only account.

We get that for free, plus an additional 1024 sq. m.

Not a bad deal, eh?

This flexible pricing structure is good for everyone EXCEPT a certain type of griefer that currently tries to 'power-game' in game currency, and purchase entire sims worth of land.

On a side note:
In fact, you could 'lease' your grandfathered land to someone else for a couple ($$ or L$) a month, and actually make money.

Also, a little note that has started to bug me:

In 1.2 the Lindens are DEFINETELY NOT allocating plots of land to people.

Paying for 1/4 of a sim doesn't mean that you get (X,Y) (P,Z) coordinates of land in Da Boom.

What it means is that you have the right purchase up to 1/4 of a sims worth of square meters, total.

This could be in 4 sq. m. plots spread all over the game.

No, this would hurt.

He already has a 'chat' only account, plus 1024 sq.m. of free land

I think it is 1024 sq.m.----Its 1/4 of an acre anyways, someone else do the math

Except of course that that would be a community standards violation :p

Then, you should give all your Items and land to a good friend, cancel your account and after 1.20 is out, sign up for the 9,95$ one time fee. If you cancel your account and then sign up again, you ARE a new resident. After you are back in the game, you just take all the items back your friend was saving for you. Where is the problem? :)

The "only for new residents" only means, that you can not use your old Avatar.

No-no-no

I think you can stop paying now, and just NOT pay anymore, and keep using your current account.

I don't think you will be billed, as long as you aren't using any land, or, in fact, you are using less than 1024 sq.m.

All old users will be given land for FREE! you do not have to pay anything more a month. Unless you want more land.

Anybody(*) who already paid for an SL account (even those who have already cancelled) will be able to use SL at the no-cost level after 1.2.

In other words you will have to pay $0 to play in SL if you own no land. The no-cost account gets a stipend (I think you only get your stipend if you've logged in for at least some minimum ammount of time that week), and can create objects almost(**) without bound... they will simply be deleted or returned to your inventory when you leave.

(*) Users who have been banished for bad behavior will remain banished.

(**) Your objects near you will persist, but will be automatically cleaned up if you wander too far and:
(1) they get too old OR
(2) if the sim starts to get too full of temporary objects
