Charity Auction and Ball for Katrina victims

I have wanted to hold a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina for some time now. I have trying to come up with something that would raise some money and would also be enjoyable. This is what I came up with:

A Charity Ball and Auction
Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6pm
Cocktails Ballroom

However, we won't be auctioning off clothing, skins or vehicles. We'll be auctioning off residents of Second Life... perhaps those you have always wanted to get to know better.
If you are the high bidder, you will win a date with the person you bid on. Winning does not include any sexual activities however (that's our official disclaimer), just a fun evening of getting to know someone a bit better.

I intend to put myself on the block. If you would like to do the same, simply send me a notecard in-world, with your boigraphy (make it interesting) and name the notecard "AUCTION ME!"

Also up for bidding (so far) is Maureen McLean, Cheronne Basset, and although I haven't asked him yet, my hubby lol
I hope to get many of you infamous posters to join in. Remember that it is for a good cause.

(And before anyone comments... I only listed them because they were the first to come to mind).

A high profile resident IMed me in-world and basically said, "I'll donate a two hour date with me if you can get a Linden to also agree to be auctioned."

Alot has been said recently about Lindens showing favortism. If I beg, plead and do everything else to convince a Linden to be auctioned off, will YOU be annoyed and call it favoritism?

Ordinarily, I would NEVER ask a Linden to participate in an event. But this is for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

I feel so sad for all of those struck by the disaster. I have donated rl items that I already had and donated both my stipend and that of my alts. I don't have a lot of resources irl, but I do want to help by every means possible.

Thinking about who YOU would pay $L for to spend time with, who would be at the top of that list? Probably a Linden.

So I guess what this all boils down to is, please participate in this event, and please don't mutter and complain about whoever should volunteer to step up to be auctioned.

I think this is a wonderful idea, and the inclusion of a Linden would also bring some great publicity for the event, and additional monies for this cause. Knowing that a few of them are very good natured, I hope that one or TWO of them would volunteer to be auctioned for charity.

The big difference here is that it's for a charity event. It's not a policital, "I need fest."

So please do bug the Linden's and ask for volunteer(s) to be auctioned.

Jesse Murdock has agreed to be auctioned off. Come on, people. You donated your stipends, now do the harder thing and donate your TIME.

I am going to call the Red Cross in the morning to see if there is something we can set up that shows that the money is going directly to the Red Cross. I know that would help a lot of people who would like to donate but are afraid that their money is not going to the Red Cross.

Also, I have asked Philip and Pathfinder Linder (so far) to be in the auction. No reply yet.
