Wow. The Gaming Open Market (http://www.gamingopenmarket.com) has broken the US$500,000 dollar mark! That's half a million US$ dollars worth of our ingame L$ currency traded! Wow! :D

Think of how well they'd do if they opened up the other markets again!!

(P.S. I really want the other markets to open again. :)

The reason they don't support other game currencies anymore is really quite simple. LL has committed to helping track-down and prevent fraud, such as that which cost GOM US$3000 a while back, while all of the other onling game publishers refuse to acknowledge or support in any way the trade in their currencies.

GOM can't keep their costs as low as they are, while keeping themselves open to further fraud. Don't blame GOM... blame the other game publishers for burying their heads in the sand and refusing to acknowledge the obvious.

Another interesting GOM-related tidbit that I noticed this morning. IGE has mostly turned off their buying of L$ over the last week or so. And when they have been buying, it has usually been limited to smaller blocks. Today, I noticed that now they've even dropped their buy price again. As of the positing of this message, they won't buy more than L$10K, and they're only offering US$1.225/L$250, as opposed to the US$1.25 which they used to offer.

But even with this reduced buying by IGE, the price on GOM seems to have reached an equilibrium at the US$1.17-1.23 range. Perhaps the market has finally settled on the value of the L$.

Until another "must-have" item sweeps through the economy (before it was land).

It's all supply and demand :)

They would probably make even more money, if they would switch to Credit cards and fire Paypal, which has proven over and over again, a source of problems.

Unbelievable stuff. It's fascinating to see this sort of stuff now... man, it feels like only yesterday that I was "wowwed" by 2-line BBS's that had multiplayer Trade Wars....

Oh man, I just dated myself. I'll get back to my whiddling.

hehe indeed it did :P I remember adding a second line to my BBS and furiously re-writing a strategy game to try and take advantage of it :)

Then again I also remember 'upgrading' my modem to take 1200 baud and how much excitement that created for my users.

Siggy.

Ok so divide that by 2 (they only take a percentage on sales) then add .03 per after and they made a grand total of $7500? Then take out cost of running, how long, losses...

Seems like a lucrative trade to me I suppose, considering the amount of time you would have to put into it though I don't know.

Would be interesting to see there numbers.

edit: nevermind I'm way off it's .03 per block, still would be interesting to see what they are pulling in after taxes and other costs.

I added up the blocks for sale over 100 for today then multiplied by .03 and came to around $160

Then theres some clever people that like to do this it seems so it will throw the numbers way off

2 (500) $100.00 ($200.00) buy =2 blocks 500 linden dollars
2 (500) $100.00 ($200.00) buy
2 (500) $100.00 ($200.00) buy
1 (250) $100.00 ($100.00) buy =1 block 250 linden dollars
1 (250) $100.00 ($100.00) buy
1 (250) $100.00 ($100.00)

In a real world trade market that would be illegal though. Another reason I won't use these third party sites myself.

Not a lot. :) It's really more a "labour of love" and a desire to do something interesting and progressive. In fact *several* of our traders (not to mention PayPal) have made far more off GOM than we have. :o

As an aside, that $500k represents almost L$100,000,000 being recycled back into the SL community!
