What's with Canada?

All this disaster talk got me thinking again about Canada. What's the deal with them? Why are they up there, never really causing any trouble or doing anything particularly noteworthy, never having any major catastrophes, rarely making the news, changing the name of the Queen of England when she visits, etc? What are they planning? When will they strike? Are our borders safe from the red-leaf menace?

Do they have something to do with the hurricane? Look at the direction the hurricane went... it certainly wasn't going toward Mexico.

We are peacefull. We just like to party, and when people need help we help them because we are fortunate that AT THE MOMENT *me knocks on wood* nothing bad happens.

That's it.

It's true. We're currently sending down our army and disaster recovery teams to help you folks down there out. We're even trying to get emergency workers and power engineers to help out.

Plus, we focus on our internal issues -- feeding our hungry, dealing with our power-hungry snakes, building low-cost housing where we can, relieving disasters around the world, selling our pot, drinking beers, and.. stuff.

We in Canada have our own share of major problems but they don't get on the news as much. Canada.com will say more, however. Oh geez wait, a good chunk of the news on that page is from the US.

But actually, I lived not too far from like the 2nd worst mass murder in Canada, where one of my friends was killed :(, and it hardly made a blip on the US news—or even the Canadian news, in retrospect!

They already live in an almost barren wasteland with nothing but ice, moose, and polar bears... no need to rub it in... :D

(For the flames I'm about to get, I'm on vacation as of now, so.... well I guess that just encourages ya huh?)

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

I have a relative in Sweden who ran into a moose. Her car got mangled, not to mention herself.

But they DO taste pretty good ( See cookie thread )

It's Canada. They had gold in parts, but the Americans swarmed it. Now they have meese and ice.

Yeah, Canada is pretty wealthy at the moment with a low population and all our oil & gas.

We should probably try spreading the wealth a bit more, I think.

the Canadians are being quiet because they're preparing for an all out strike on Denmark.

What? It's true!

Oh sure, Like Canadians aren't still mad at the US for that time they sent cruise missles into Toronto to stop the SARS virus outbreak. At least I think thats what we did. Isn't it our policy to bomb everything we don't like?

Ok. Now I have this image of some kind of watermelon decorated fairytale cottage in a glade, with Torley serenading a pack of bears on her keyboard.

Ice Storm of 1998

Although Canada is inundated with American news stories, Canadian news rarely makes it to the U.S. of A. How many from countries other than Canada are familiar with the devestating ice storm of 1998?
