For those who desire the cash for prizes and income for your club or similar venue, why not seek advertising from the many businesses in SL?

People have and continue to do so.
I believe there still is a place for LL supported events in SL that offers L$ for people to host their home grown events without having to go the commercial route. ![]() _____________________

The vast majority of my funding for the Shelter comes from:
1. Advertising (Metaadverse) 2. Donations from Generous Residents ![]() Typically, my out-of-pocket funding for the month is about L$5k-L$10k, which aint all that much in the grand scheme of things. I look at it as a small price to pay for doing something I love ![]() Granted, I run somewhat of a non-traditional venue - but no reason why others couldn't do similar. |

But why should we pay to entertain LLs customers?

Travis, does it never strike you as odd that your work is still something you pay to do? I love teaching for a living, but I certainly would never suggest that I should pay my employer to go and teach their customers for them. Why should I have to pay thousands in Linden every month just to compete with other events holders who are under the impression that it is right and good that they pay to work while others are paid for working? Also, why should SL not also pay for its tourism industry as other countries do?
Advertising in events is something that is bound to happen when makers of 3D content wise up to people marketing (rather than paper marketing) and how it works. It will be a very slow process. IF we don't heal the events calendar, SL could well be dead or dying by then. SL's vast growth was largely prompted by people coming over from other games that failed to give them what they need. IF there is nothing to do in SL, and no viable way to make income or identity in game, people will leave SL too for the next thing that gives them what they need. I am totally for the idea that people can partner with events hosts to make events happen. What I am totally tired of is begging all the time for doing something valuable in game. I beg people to support events hosts by tipping them (which they rarely do, even when they say how great the event was, etc.). I beg LL to give me my monies from teaching classes after begging them for the right to teach the classes in the first place. I beg people to give me prizes to give away (and those who have done so have done so with extreme reluctance, causing me to learn to build and open my own store just so i didn't have to keep going through the humiliating process of asking people to donate prizes). I was so put off by how people reacted by me just asking for prizes to give away, that I didn't even attempt to beg for money. I've gotten a few thousand K for donations (probably less than Travis spends out of pocket in a single month) to support many many months of events programming. Some of us, after awhile, get a little tired of begging. I feel like I need kneepads in game, and for no fun reason! ![]() _____________________

People generally prefer money to objects. There will always be people throwing rl money at their events.
