Fight the Lag

Here's my good deed for the decade...possibly.

Probably the most widely distrib'd script out there is the random color cycler. You all know it; the flashing rave sticks and dance floors etc.The problem is that the randomizer is apparently a heavy load on the server; get 50 of them running in a sim and you lose performance just to see some sticks and circles flash.

So, I wrote a script that uses a one-line texture animation and anim-cel texture to get the same exact effect. Since as I understand it texture animation using these methods is client side, this can get you the effect you want without generating any lag at all (or at least a lot, lot less).

Me, Ope Rand, and Skeedale Skidoo, are giving away a modifiable item that holds the script and the texture so you can see how it was done. I didn't comment it, but take a look and you will see, it's very easy and if you have/know anybody that can make squares in photoshop, you can make your own custom flashing patterns. In fact this can become a source of revenue for the texture mavens.

For you DJs out there, I am also giving out a small piece of code that will let you lock the start command for your records/jukeboxes so only the owner can turn it on. It's a minor modification to the script you are probably already using.

Send me, skee or ope a tell for more info. Ratings donations votes gratefully accepted.
