The Big Frame Rate Questionnaire

People,

I notice a slow frame rate sometimes, and I just read a thread in here where someone else said they also were with a 3GHz machine on a 1.5mbps machine. So I figured, what is the situation on the ground? How many are fine, and how many have slow frame rates?

Here's a quiz to gather some raw data from the people.

Definitions:

* Slow computer ==> Let's say, a computer that struggles to run a number of 3D type games
* Slow framerate ==> A frame rate which you feel gets in the way of your normal use of Second Life

Define slow. When does this happen?
SL works pretty well on my 4 year old computer, but granted, I'm a scripter, so more often than not I just need to draw my own avatar and a default textured cube :P
I also keep the draw distance at 64...

With my 2002 laptop and not-so-mighty GeForce4 MX, even the 8 mbps link can't help. Keeping the drawing distance at 96 or 64 m, outfit composite at 3 (soon to be 2), no fog and middle to low detail can, though.

3.6 ghz P4, gig of PC-4200 ram, 1680x1050, nvidia 6800 ultra 256 meg, laptop, and I regularly get 25-30 fps... sometimes I exceed 60-70 fps in the right areas.

I have a 2.27 GHz pentium4, a Raedon 9200 128, and a connection thats greater than 1Mbpps.

I get a moderately good framerate. it isnt good enough to keep me happy all the time, but its bearable, even under heavy lag.

there wasn't a medium ground on the poll so I voted other.

Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz 768 Mb of ram, Radeon 9250 (cheap vid card) ~15-20 FPS. My cut is at 128 / 1.2 fog ratio.

I don't think your bandwidth has anything to do with your framerate (or, at least it shouldn't).. someone correct me if I am wrong.

My framerates are around 7-15 FPS, and average around 10.

Athlon 2600+
1.5 GB RAM
GeForce FX 5500 256MB Video Card
3000/768 DSL Connection

In an empty sim, I'll see framerates around 20, and at an event with 30 people, I'll see framerates around 2-3.

Some sims/locations are worse than others, of course. But regardless of where I am, High Framerates and High Attendance seem to be mutually exclusive.

What is your cut at, folks? That's kinda the major determining factor of your framerate.
