Curious how people feel about Germany's stance on WWII censorship. (above is a recent example)

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Censorship in Germany goes so far as to remove violence from video games, and any references to Hitler from them as well. Like in C&C, they removed the scene with Einstein shaking Hitler's hand and 'removing' him from history, AND recolored all the blood in the game to an 'oil' color, claiming that you were fighting using androids.

Not to judge, but I think it's silly. Yes it was bad, yes I'm sure they feel terrible about the guy... but it happened. What good will denying it do, other than to make future generations forget the past's mistakes?

I tend to think the same when people panic about a picture of the twin towers still remaining on photos from years ago, as if nobody should admit they ever existed and all reference to them should be removed.

Not intending to be insensitive, just being objective / honest. I think having the most clear possible picture of what happened, helps immensely in sticking things into people's minds. Maybe that's what people are scared of, but I'd rather people *do* remember so that future generations can learn from their ancestor's mistakes. Hiding the truth solves nothing.

I agree... In the US we don't censor anywhere near that level. If anything in the US there's a sort of "self-censorship". The first thing that you'd see if someone tried to glorify Hitler in some way on this forum would be the 50 flames pissed off people write.

What is the censorship in Germany intended to do or prevent?

I've seen screenshots but I don't know if this is true: apparently the German version of Half-Life replaced the soldiers with robots who "bled" neon green when you shot them. If you purposely shot the Barney security guards, even in the face with the shotgun, they would sit down and sadly shake their head asking (in German), "Why did you have to do that?"

A few months back I read a news feed, (at a major news site, and also read it on the ticker on CNN so I feel it's not a hoax.

A man in Berlin taught his dog how to give the *Nazi Salute*. He evidentally had the dog do so in public, he also had had at least one previous run-in with the Polizei. The man was arrested, charged and was facing up to 3 yrs. in jail for *display of an illegal political symbol.*
Taking it too far? Thoughts?

Not sure Garoad, although they did mention he had some previous dealings with the police for disruptions in his *neighborhood*. As far as how the dog did the salute I dunno either, they didn't spend much time on it, but I would guess by just sticking his lower leg and paw out directly in front of him.
