Is it me or has the Total Population for Second Life increased by 2,500 or so in the last few days? I could have sworn I was just commenting to a friend, "Oh hey look we made it to 34,000."

Will the population dip back down, stay steady, or increase after the the free time is over?

I met 4 new players this weekend. They were just flying around, exploring. I sent them immediately to *PREEN*.
![]() Actually I gave them a massive ice cream cone and my freebie pack. They seemed to be genuinely new as opposed to just alts. They bumped into things often. _____________________

They seemed to be genuinely new as opposed to just alts. They bumped into things often. If that were the prerequisite for noobness then I am still by far VERY new! ![]() I have been having fun lately meeting new residents and taking them around and showing them stuff. Helping them do this or that. What is funny about that is in RL I have the patience of a crack addict with ADHD, but for some strange reason helping a newbie is enjoyable. Welcome to all the new thousands of residents, none of which will of course read this forum anyway so...welcome oldies who are just now finding the forums. ![]() |

Well, I love meeting new people, ect... However, when I came a year ago we all could move much better and assist to all events much better, no lag, ect... Was very enjoyable.
I hardly go out to events because I can't move. To every club I go, I can't move and to every tringo if I go I can't move. Even to fashion shows. but when I own the modeling agency was laggy too and was my fault to be laggy as much as I tried to build better and fix textures. lol Many clubs I go are full but full of awful textures and vendors that lag, too many malls around hubs ect that lag the heck out of you But I think is the population. SL should do something so we can enjoy better if they want all this people to keep coming. I am a greeter and enjoy it but would be more enjoyable if I can take the noobies to places where they don't say, "SL is laggy" and they say that when I am in the welcoming area only _____________________

re: lag

Palomma, try TPing them to a different sim. i did that when i had my first (and only, so far) Greeter experience. they seemed to be lagging pretty bad, so i went over to my land in Miramare and brought them there.. close and i never really get lagged down there either.
- back on topic, i have a friend who has joined during this free promotion.. and hopefully more to follow. i know of at least one person who's been dying to find the time to start an account and with the Free offer, it's a perfect time for her. the increase in new accounts won't stay as strong after the promotion, but it will keep rising. it's like the influx of Thereians last year. huge amounts of new subscribers, then it dies down a bit.. but stays as strong as before, and a bit more at that. now we'll have these thousands of new residents who spread the word.. and once they find out about the referral program, they'll be more than happy to spread the word here and there, i would imagine. _____________________

Speaking of which, I'd like to pipe up again to say I wouldn't be here today if Barney hadn't helped me change my settings.
For some of us, the lag makes it IMPOSSIBLE to play, almost regardless of where you are, unless someone tells you how to adjust your settings and does so soon. There needs to be something right away - on orientation island, splashed across the front page of the web site, I don't care what - but right away and OFTEN - telling how to adjust those settings if you are having trouble moving. And it needs to be very clearly written. Or said, whatever. I imagine this game has lost more players and more immediately to that - not knowing about the settings - than any other single factor. coco |

Reducing your draw distance does help a lot. _____________________

Uhhh, that last graph tells me that the transactions value is utterly fake since it doesn't change, even slightly, when the grid is down. The other two graphs clearly show the grid down on week27 yet the third graph is steady as a heartbeat. Then again too, I have seen the transaction metric moving up when the grid was down twice on the SL mainpage.
Maybe I'm missing something? _____________________

I have been to the SL U2 thingy, and they asked for everyone to remove hair, and prim costumes.. and they handed out basic clothes.. and stuff, so it was WAY less laggy with tons of ppl so everyone could enjoy and have a good time
![]() even though i missed my prim hair, at least it was fun, and we could actually move ![]() _____________________

34,354? Wasn't the population just at 38,000+ a day or so ago and we're back down to 34,354? Any thoughts on what might have happened?

Home page not updating ?
07-15-2005 20:47
I also paused at the 34,354 this evening. After some quick checking I realized that the 1,244 of online users hasn't changed all night and that our internal tool shows ~2350 people online.. so I suspect there is something buggy with the home page tonight.

I noticed this yesterday, too. I suspect the Lindens are purging old accounts that have become inactive, or trial accounts that haven't converted, but of course this is just speculation.

Along the buggy lines, I noticed today it hasn't wanted to come up at all, most of the time, and just keeps saying, "loading..."
