Hey all,
I'm trying to get a sense of how many content creators out there either currently are doing freelance work, or would be willing to do so under the right conditions. Specifically, if the price is right, would you be willing to design goods and products that include all reselling rights? (As an example, imagine someone offering $5000 each for 5 outfits, provided you give them full reselling, edit, and copy rights.)
I'm wondering how many people out there (particularly on the content side) would be interested in this kind of freelance model. I'm thinking of not only clothing, of course, but also sc ripts, textures, buildings, vehicles, etc.
Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

I'll make full open source plywood cubes for a mere 100 lindens... though mine aren't as high quality as the ones Cubey is selling in abbotts...

Hummus, I've done Work for Hire in SL and I'll be doing a presentation about it next month for the RL Work in SL group. I'm always interested in learning about more opportunities.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but it might be useful for you to know that the Lindens are working on a directory of content creators available for hire. They posted in the forums a while back (a month or so?) soliciting info for the listings.

I would definately be interested. Though I hope we wouldn't have to set an exactly hourly rate or anything- I tend to charge on how much I enjoy the job

If you allow reselling, then your exclusive project is immediately non-exclusive... it only takes one person to let his copy pop into a vendor and resell it, thus stealing your hard work, and soon the whole grid has it.
Whoops.
No-transfer or bust for me.

Quite a few months back, anshe was posting about buying work-for-hire goods. I'm not sure how the experiment worked for her, but you might ask as you do your research.
I'm all for more options for creators who have trouble with marketing/distribution, including a work-for-hire avenue.
I might do it in the right circumstances ... though those circumstances haven't arisen yet. Would probably be a combination of my long-term interest in the product area (or lack thereof), who was doing the asking and what i thought of their business, and the up-front cash being offered in exchange for waiving future revenue streams and IP rights.
