Not sure if this is the right area for this question so here goes. I run SL in window mode and I really don't understand why I have to go to edit preferences to switch to full screen mode to be able to teleport to places that I look up in the find menus. The same goes for looking up people and needing to im them. In window mode, the bottom of the lists are always cut off. Why is it this way and if it isn't normal for everyone, then what can I do to fix it. It is rather a pain in the ass to keep switching screen modes. Yes, I know I could keep it full screen...but for some reason I seem to lag that way...dunno why. Plus, I like window-mode ;P

I run in Window mode and also don't have these problems. My guess is that it has something to do with your resolution being wrong.

Hmm... what are your settings? I'm not at home but I use the first graphics option in window mode...600x800 or something. The other options don't allow for window mode for me.

I'm not in front of it right now but Im pretty sure its set to 1024x 768. What video card do you use? This sounds like an issue with your video card, not SL.

In full screen mode I can up to 1600x1200, but in window mode I can maybe get 800x600 or 1024x768. Weird, but I just drag the window corner and make it larger.

No issues here either.

I have mine at 800x600 in window mode, and I have the window stretched to cover everything but my bottom task bar.

I run my desktop at 1600x1200, and most of the time (well, when I'm building or scripting, which is basically most of the time) I run in windowed mode. The window is 1024x768, so there is tons of desktop real estate not being used by the SL window.
You need to either increase the resolution of your desktop, or decrease the resolution of the SL window.
And, BTW, you don't need to go to Edit -> Preferences to change... Alt-Enter switches from windowed mode to full screen (and back).

Well, I could be very wrong here, I might not understand what the problem is, but here goes:
When you're in windowed mode, look up to the upper right frame corner. There are 3 buttons. The X to close the application and the - to minimize and then there's the one in the middle. Click THAT one. It sounds like your window is not 'fixed' in position and size, but floating on your desktop.

The window is 1024x768 I'm curious to know how well you can read the small text within SL. At 1024h on a 1600h display, even if it's a 30" Apple Cinema panel, that makes for some tiny text. I'm referring to the non-adjustable Inventory/Edit Window/IM Window text, not the adjustable chat text. I run my SL in a 1152x648 window.
