Utterly disgusted...

I have just had one of the wealthy people in SL admit to using a money cheat. I can't tell you how disgusted I am. I am just barely solvent, and many of you know how I have struggled financially. I have talked with so many people truly upset and discouraged because of their financial situation. People who are incredibly good builders and have a lot to give to this community. And they can't do anything because they have no money.

To have it confirmed that someone who hasn't been here long is taking money from all of us by using a cheat is... well... it's just more than I can handle right now. Especially because the person said how very much fun they've been having with all their money.

I plead with the Lindens to find some way take money back from cheaters and return it to the global pool. And also to fine them.

Just plain disgusted --
Kerstin

Gosh Kirstin, I didn't mean to upset anyone. I found accidentally discovered a quirk the other day, and had fun gaining money from it. I haven't even been back into SL to see that I still had the money, didn't even know if it was real?

Honestly, the last thing I'd want to do is upset you. Sometimes finding a bug is fun, geepers. Go ahead and kick me out, it wasn't fun playing until I discovered that goofy thing last Sunday anyway, and I had fun for an hour or so, gaining easy - not real- money.

I know you've worked hard on many wonderful projects for SL, Kirstin, and I admire it. But please, for your sake, not mine, I couldn't care less, but for you, please lighten up.

Good Reply Ingie. But I hope that you told a Linden. Because that's what beta testing is all about. A glitch like that, (in my previous beta testing) resulted in a mass server wipe. So do please tell a Linden. I don't care if you make millions... I just don't want my stuff wiped.... AND PLEASE DO NOT POST IT ON THE BOARDS! E-MAIL THEM!

I assume you are talking about the Pinata, Nexus. We weren't wiped for that. They said that they were gonna wipe us anyway :P

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

This type of bug is, of course, very important to us.

Many many thanks to those who found this particular one (first of it's kind, good catch!).

As a reminder, part of the terms of service of the closed beta program is that you do tell us when a bug/cheat/exploit/non-working system is found.

For money cheats, we would appreciate it if we were told immediately, and told how much you personally made finding the exploit. We can of course, find out, but it's just easier if you are honest with us.

We'll post a notice once its fixed. Until then, please don't use it.

What if...
01-15-2003 14:44
What if we use it accidentally? Like, lets say I am shooting my gun and bullets arent created and I get the money. Will I get in trouble? I wouldn't use it intentionally, but, what if it happens and I don't even realize it?

I'm sticking my neck out here, but I'm gonna say it. Please don't be so paranoid. This is supposed to be fun you know. they aren't gonna go out on a head hunt now because of this.

To confirm
01-15-2003 15:27
... we don't plan on being in the habit of "busting" people for finding errors. That would kind of defeat the purpose of a closed beta program wouldn't it?

Instead, we just request that exploits/bugs/errors etc be submitted to us as timely as possible (read: immediately), and that we be given a fair amount of time to fix them.

I hope the spirit in which I am writing this is being conveyed correctly. (Curse you text without your vocal inflections!)

Have Fun,

In the spirit of making life for our developers as exciting as possible, we just pushed a simulator patch (nobody needs to download anything, purely a back end change). It's rather thrilling to watch our deployment program chug away as the clock ticks along, 3:44, 3:45, 3:46 :D !

What was happening was this: when we create an object we create it with information about who to refund in the event that it gets deleted. In certain cases we don't actually complete the creation process so we need to prevent the refund from happening. We weren't in this case but we are now :-)!

Thanks to the folks who brought this up! It may not always percolate out, but some of our happiest moments over the last few months have been the discovery of strange, odd, and wacky bugs by all of you -- even if most of them have been in the scripting language so I'm the one who has to fix them!

Im guessing the thing you just put up will fix the exploit that was previously stated in this post?
