What are the exact coordinates of the new entry points?
By that I mean numeric coordinates in 3 dimensions.
Are they really using Morris for the sandbox when they used a gun to indicate what to chose? Say it aint so! Gun use is outlawed in Morris, and it really ruins the experience of building , to me at least, when you can't build in peace. With a gun as a primary indication of what one is selecting the result should be in a damage enabled area, or at least a safe area where special dispensation has been granted for shooting. Or has the Morris gun restriction sign been changed?

It certainly seems that guns are the predominant theme of the fourth entry point. *facepalms*

Yikes. Looks like Helvetica Linden was set loose on those images: Usually, Linden typography and signage is pretty top-notch. Oh well, I guess it's a temporary thing. Hopefully they can come up with a sexier format in the future, though. Those pictures really break the otherwise very slick SL look that LL has been cultivating. (Waterhead WA, anyone? Damn, that's some nice signage.)

The picture I received from OI definitely had a gun prominently pictured, and I think that's fine - it just needs to take them to a sandbox that is pushgun and projectile gun legal. It could be damage enabled, like Rausch, since the respawn point when they get killed would be right there in sandbox.

I think a nicer representation of Morris would be an avatar building an object, like that pic that used to be on the SL website of someone building a motorcycle. As soon as new users pop out in Morris, they'll be looking to shoot someone.

It's not Helvetica
08-16-2005 07:45
The font used in the signs is mostly not Helvetica, I believe, not traditional Helvetica at any rate. The leftmost sign may have Helvetica in the top and bottom lines, but the words "THE EDGE" are more like Gill Sans extra bold condensed italic. Helvetica would have a spur on the bottom right side of the "G". The middle two signs use the same font as each other, with circular "O"s suggesting avant garde or futura, and the sandbox sign uses yet another font, a squareslab serif font resembling Lubalin.

Don't get me started on the painful layer effects used on the Edge image.
