Last night I logged in to find this saved IM:
Avitar X* has rated you positivly (no message).
When I looked up Avitar X to IM a thank you, s/he wasn't listed. The online box wasn't checked, so offline people were listed too. I even coppied and pasted the name into the search box to rule out typos. No Avitar X.
There was someone with a name very similar to Avitar X (think: Abitar X or Avidar X) , but no match.
What's going on?

Try searching the name later today or tomorrow even, maybe it is a database snafu. Or, maybe the rating was given a couple of weeks ago and has been in limbo and the user has already quit. Or, Avitar X is a secret agent and you were never meant to know who they are.

They may have been permabanned. When that happens, their existence is expunged from the Search database and they won't show up.
Maybe pos rating you was their last action before the plug got pulled..... _____________________

The database is way screwed up right now. Robin has asked us not to use search at all. It's highly doubtful under these circumstances that it's going to work properly.
That having been said, I don't think there has ever been such a last name as "X". I'd bug report this one. _____________________

She changed the name. Haha, I should have realized that. That's what I get for taking an afternoon nap & logging into the forums all groggy I guess. Oh well, I guess that explains why avatar was spelled wrong so many times. Anyhow, what I said about search was true. I wouldn't trust it until we're given a green light on it again. _____________________

You can go here to search for dead accounts: http://forums.secondlife.com/memberlist.php?do=search Or use the slightly different find tool that we have for land parcels - that one will let you find dead accounts as well. _____________________
