http://smh.com.au/news/livewire/adult-playgrounds/2005/09/13/1126377318041.html A virtual land of opportunity, Second Life began as a blank canvas in June 2003 and now is an astonishing, unpredictable and fascinating world. San Francisco-based developers Linden Lab created Second Life's virtual terrain and player interface. But everything else, from ornate castles to individual character animations, is the handiwork of committed residents. Digital denizens first choose a character, then are left to their own devices. The adults-only world is bound by few rules. (More on the site)

Thanks for sharing this... I mean this as no slight, but over time, a number of articles about SL are starting to come off like mad libs when naming what you can discover in Second Life... "Insert X, Y, and Z here, whee!" Soon we'll have all bases covered.

Fair article. The text is straight to the point, objective, and well-written. However, the image they use is a classic example of the newly-coined term, bullshot. Whoever approved it isn't just giving people the wrong impression - they're outright lying. Have a look for yourselves - you'll see what I mean. Subtitle reads: From: someone A character from Second Life, an online game that blurs the line between virtual reality and life. Attached from the article:

LOLEX, good catch Jeffrey. I sure wish we could trek to the mountains with a cloudburst like that! Someone's been seeing too many Snapzilla tricks.

So they depicted SL as a photorealistic world populated by crosseyed S&M vikings.
What's the problem?

That's no Viking. That's a Mesopotamian dressed in priestly armor. And that's not Norway. That's a ski run outside Vail, Colorado. What's a Mesopotamian priest-warrior from a Colorado ski resort doing in an article on Second Life? That's not a lie, that's just wrong.
