Need Photoshop help

I'm not very well-versed in Photoshop and could use a hand with something that seems simple, however I just can't seem to do it.

It involves changing the Font of Text in an image...some fonts work...normal stuff like Times New Roman and all the boring fonts...I went to find some better ones and downloaded 4 "True Type" Fonts....when i change the font in photoshop to one of these the text just goes blank. (this happens with some of the fonts that were already installed as well)...It won't allow me to type with that font selected either....I can't seem to figure it out.

Any have any ideas or suggestions?

At first glance, that sounds almost like a memory/system resources issue. Photoshop is a big fat memory hog. I know that sometimes if I've got too many other windows open and I fire up Photoshop, certain things just won't render or display properly. Text is usually the first to go. Not sure if this is the case for you, but it seems to be a common occurrence with a bunch of other programs running in the background.

Another thing that might be a problem is if the font just doesn't have the characters you're trying to show. Some fonts are weird and don't show lower case or caps, and I know some system fonts are weird like that. Or it may be something else...

Both good guesses but it doesn't seem to be the case here...If i change to courier for example it shows the text...when i change to one of the new ones it doesn't..(but in the font veiwer all the letters i've typed are there)...then if i change to Times new roman the text is magically there again....(doesn't seem like a resource issue, it seems to be specific to different fonts.)

Do they work in other apps (not character viewer)?

I just figured it out and it's the dumbest thing i've ever seen...(well, maybe not but it ranks right up there

before when i went to change the fonts i Highlighted the text....when I changed it the text blanked out....this time i tried it again...instead of highlighting the text I just put the cursor in front of the text and started typing....it worked....then i just deleted what i originally typed....I tried highlighting and changing the next text and it didn't work...heheh I dont' get photoshop at all
