I don't think there is a built-in method but there is a tool called 3D-Analyze which you can run behind SL that can show the output of 3D applications as a wireframe.

P.S.: The Matrix sucks. :)

I agree the matrix sucks a fat one, but I just fancied seeing the SL world in wireframe. I try to with most 3D stuff. I like it you see.

I like pasta too
and gammon

but not together unless there is nothing else in the cupboards.

There was a time, when this could be done.

The option to go to wireframe is built in the client, but its disabled for us mere mortals.

The reason (if i remember properly) was to allow for privacy.

Because we are supposed to believe that the world exists as we see it. Everybody knows that we stream data from the servers. Most users don't realize that our individual PCs render all of what we see, and can be configured to render the data any way we like. If I alter trees.xml to show purple plant textures on the Linden trees, *EXAMPLE ALERT* I've altered the world as I see it and made it more pleasant for me. Nobody else can see it unless I share the settings with them AND they choose to alter their view.

For some reason, this idea of varying interpretations of the data to suit individual preferences terrifies several of the Lindens and quite a few residents. You wanting to wander the world seeing everything in wireframe makes you a freak who needs attention to be brought back into the fold of proper thinking. If you find a way to accomplish it, you're an outright witch and must be sacrificed for the good of the "normal" Community All Hail The Central Community.

Most of the long time back burner, fairly simple to implement features you hear about focus on this abject fear of letting us make the world our own. It must remain the same for all.
