Welcome Dori! I'd recommend asking people in world, not the forums. These types of queries, while well-intentioned, typically end with everyone, obviously, listing themselves and their friends, and then other's yelling about how everyone just lists themselves and their friends (even though that's quite natural to do).
To get a good response, ask people in world after you've established some sort of common interest.

Pathfinders Picks will keep you busy exploring.
The Shelter is a very welcoming club for a newbie to hang out at. The name was always easy for me to remember too; had a familiar ring to it.

Pathfinder's Picks are on a sign in the welcome area and he picks only the coolest places.
Trying to recommend the best places to buy things all depends on your tastes. For instance, my favorite hair shop sells only hair textures as I don't care for prim hair. Some clothing shops seem to carry mostly black clothing which I don't wear and on and on and on.

I also saw them posted near his build so I'm guessing he has a dispenser in more than one location. I'd check his profile; bet they're listed there. There also was a thread here asking for recommendations. A peek at that would give you a good idea of what's out there.
