From www.live-shot.com:

"LIVE-SHOT is a new concept. You can challenge yourself and compare your skills to other members with our on-line target shooting. We have developed a system where you can control a pan/tilt/zoom camera and a firearm to shoot at real targets in real time."

This, apparently, is not a joke; bizarre.

Sweet merciful monkey ...

I have officially seen it all today.

How long until this ends up in SL, and how much for a session?

Scamola! Scamola, I say! How can you be sure that you are actually controlling a real gun in real time? Are they gonna hold up today's newspaper next to the targets? Save your money and get a good multiplayer FPS.

I have seen this on the news. They are real guns pointed at caged animals practically. It's rediculous. The fact that people can accept this kind of wonton killing makes me regaurd the human race that much less. I'm sure one day I'll eventually hate you all and my turn to the dark side will be complete. But for right now you all just merely disgust me.

Shame on the human race for this abomination, shame on this society!

No thanks, I'd rather just go to the range and shoot. It's cheaper and actually promotes skill.

BTW Beryl, is the title to this thread a joke or are all gun owners / shooters rednecks?

Wow, this issue is still getting airplay?

I am not a proponent, but here is an alternative view (from NPR, no less).

All Things Considered, April 11, 2005 · A Texas game ranch that offers real-time hunting via the Internet is drawing criticism. Hunters such as Dale Hagberg, an Indiana man paralyzed from the neck down, can shoot animals with a rifle controlled by computer mouse.

OK I know this may sound crule to many of you, but I'm a proponent of survival of the fitest. Without our technology people paralized from the neck down would be dead. According to science and biology they are by definition "not fit" because they can no longer reproduce sexually and therefore this man Dale Hagberg is less valuable to nature than the animals he is murdering.

Ironic. May this man choke to death on his feeding tube before he harms an animal.
Boy I really do have dark side! *laughs*

What does "value to nature" have to do with anything? It's about plain and simple life, really.

Yeah, I heard the NPR story a couple weeks ago. It's just the argument ad absurdum of sport-hunting come true, much as modern animal agriculture is an argument ad absurdum of beings-as-product come true. In fact, it's marginally less sickening than our mechanized feed-and-slaughter process, which is equally recreational considering most of the flesh harvested from factory farms goes into artery-bursting chain-restaurant fare and grocery store junk food.

A redneck wouldnt do this ever. Its not really shooting. The only exception I could think of is if somone was making cruel comments about crippled people and they were offered up as a target.

I'm still waiting for that to catch fire here.

I agree that rednecks wouldn't do that though...I think that's obvious for multiple reasons. Alot would probably make fun of it, though.

Really dont like some of the more paranoid implications of this concept.

What if someone were to use a similair Idea to mount a rifle somewhere hidden in a city and allow people to access it via the internet and shoot at people?

The sort of Anonymity about killing is scary.

OF course the deer hunting isnt illegal? so it is a bit different.

I guess I just dont liek the concept of remote controlled guns like this.

Its not hunting. Hunting usually entails stalking something then moving in for the kill. This is shooting fish in a barrel. No skill or cunning needed. Even Whack a Mole requires more skill.

My guess is more states will follow, but not all.

This strikes me as the ultimate "non-sport."
And cowardly.
And inhumane.
And so America.

California to ban hunting over Internet

Wednesday, May 4, 2005 Posted: 10:37 AM EDT (1437 GMT)

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Wildlife regulators took the first step Tuesday to bar hunters from using the Internet to shoot animals, responding to a Texas Web site that planned to let users fire at real game with the click of a mouse.

The Fish and Game Commission ordered wildlife officials to prepare emergency regulations to ban the practice. A period of public comment will follow.

"We don't think Californians should be able to hunt sitting at their computers at home," said Steve Martarano, a spokesman for the state Department of Fish and Game.

A bill passed by the state Senate two weeks ago would prohibit use of computer-assisted hunting sites and ban the import or export of any animal killed using computer-assisted hunting. The measure now moves to the state Assembly.

At least 14 other states and Congress are considering similar bills.

Groups including the California Sportsmen's Association, Safari Club International and the Outdoor Sportsman's Coalition of California support the ban, saying hunting over the Internet is unethical and unsporting.

Supporters have suggested the remote hunting could be beneficial for hunters with disabilities and questioned why Californians should be barred from patronizing a legitimate Texas business.

You believe in survival of the fittest? Well, good thing those inferior little animals are biting it, then.
