Would you, as a merchant or venue operator, be willing to pay a small fee for the convenience of having pre-qualified candidates for employment delivered to you?

At this point there's not much of anything I can hand off to paid employees without opening up my IP in ways I'm not entirely comfortable with, but for other types of businesses I could see something like this being very useful.

Yeah, that'd be handy Cienna.
I posted something similar awhile back, but the issue always ran down to one of trust.

Very understandable for those industries where content creation is the main income. This is more intended to see if there is interest in those areas where service employees are desired, and to explore the notion of a bona fide employment service for everything from scripting contracts to photography services to building to whatever. I think it would be very helpful to new players if there were a consolidated resource for finding work as well as to help businesses in-world find qualified employees. Just wanting to get a pulse on interest before committing time and energy to it.

i would consider employing people... but how do we know if they are doing the job they are told to do? we might pay them weekly but wot happens if they bugger off and dont do wot they should? the problem is that we do not have enforcable contracts binding people. *I AM NOT SAYING I WANT THIS* *DO NOT QUOTE ME AND SHOOT ME DOWN* *LOL* but that would be the only way to make sure that people were doing there job. plus, its a game, wot person is realisticly gonna stand on ur plot of land all day, waiting for som1 to fly past?

I was thinking of starting a shop like this. A place where people with talents met up with people who had ideas and then a person with a shop as well or such and could share in the profits. Unfortunatly noone seemed thrilled by it.

Hi Alan. Management of employees would not be a core competency of the type of business I'm thinking about.... how well you manage your employees after you have hired them is entirely up to you. I'm looking more toward insuring the person you hire is literate, speaks/writes well enough to be understood, has a good grasp of sales techniques or presentation methods or is willing to learn them, etc. What I'm looking at is interviewing and shifting through applicants and hiring on your behalf based upon the criteria you set. Insofar as contracts and such go, we have no recourse for enforcement outside of withholding money. So I would say the best way to handle things is either to pay someone 1/2 wage at the onset and the remainder at the end of a specific period (so you have some leverage) OR to only pay upon successful completion... of course that presumes you are a trustworthy person... the knife cuts both ways. All the more reason and foundation for an employment service, really. Employers who scam would be known pretty quickly, as would employees. Everyone could potentially benefit, and it would certainly be a repository of information helpful to new and veteran players alike.

I'm not to sure what they would be hired for. I doubt anyone is gonna give any kind of mod rights to someone they don't know, and let's face it, other than creation, there are limited avenues of employment in SL. I'd hire a good scripter or texturer if i could afford it, but i doubt I can.

I'd hire a good scripter or texturer if i could afford it, but i doubt I can. I know for a fact there are two really good scripters looking for assignments and they offer reasonable rates. Here you sit, "certain" that you can't afford a good scripter. Are you telling me you would not be willing to pay a small fee to find that affordable scripter? As to the rest, keep in mind that if you hire someone to do the job for you, you get to determine what permissions are on the final item, as it is delivered to you with full permissions. If that isn't part of your arrangement, you're only hurting yourself. After all, you are paying for it, right?
