I've been seeing a lot about the FIC and was just wondering, what/who is the FIC??

It's an imaginary secret society of players who supposedly rose to their positions in the community due to special favors from the Lindens that was invented by someone as a way to blame their feelings of inadequacy on anyone but themselves. The whole notion was/is so ridiculous that is has become the parody du jour these days.

Feted Inner Core. It's a paranoid theory that certain players in the game enjoy unfair, favorable treatment. It's not taken seriously but has exploded into a cultural fad because most people find it humorous.

Figments of Prokofy Neva's imagination. (Residents with supposedly unfair priveledges or insider-type relationship with Linden Labs, some because of having been in the game from the beginning, others having been adopted for various reasons.)

From what I have gathered it is a supposed 'in crowd' with a certain group of people. I get rather tired of seeing it mentioned over and over myself. Just like the cliques in school while growing up. I personally could care less about who is supposedly 'in' or 'out'. I see people as people and do not label anyone, but some people need this type of label for their own personal gratification.

Hi Tiara - welcome to Second Life!

What Chip says is true - you will more than likely see some interesting comments in this thread which will demonstrate what he has articulated.

Enjoy.

Secret organization made up of residents, who through thier SL age, some being the first to arrive on SL's shores, through RL friendships (roomates or bedmates with certain lindens), or just through brown-nosing Lindens, have gained power within SL to the point that they actually make decisions effecting the entire SL-world, and choose which direction SL will go in the future.

Some believe that even Philip Linden, the CEO, is under the control of the FIC, either through blackmail, bribery or mind control.

FIC members are usually, but not always, well-known SL personalities, often for their achievements, creativity or freindliness.

They have become jaded, and occasionally practice such hobbies as newbie hunting for pelts, sacrficing newbs to volcanos, or causing sims to crash.

They are real..and they are everywhere.

Your best bet is to lay low, make firends with alot of folks (so they will notice if you go missing), and never mention the FIC again...

Edit: Everything in the above post is total bullshit, and there is no FIC. (Happy now Aimee??)

ZsuZsanna, I agree with you but I think maybe you are seeing something a little different than what I see. The "in crowd" you describe are actaully being labeled FIC by Prokofy Neva. Nobody labeled "FIC" believes they are FIC and if you talk to those folks they aren't even snobby. However out of parody of Prok's insanity, many of the accused have taken on the FIC title because it's funny. Posters, T-shirts, buttons...etc.

But the "in crowd" clique you are describing doesn't really exist, at least not in the way you are describing it.

Sometimes I get the feeling we're all just playing Prokofy's SecondLife.

Folks, I said listen to him, I didn't say let him take over!

I think what's happened is that people are so busy fighting prokofy they don't notice that they're just validating everything he says.

Jesus.

"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

This is when it becomes a bonus to be a newbie, and not know who Prok is. Nor care to know who Prok is. lol. I never label anyone, and I don't care who is "popular," or any of the rest of it. I'll talk to everyone, as long as you don't do something nasty to me to make me NOT want to talk to you :)

Stop it Blaze. In the last couple of days you keep saying things that I agree with, and it's confusing my tiny mind! :D
