Ok I wanted to see everyone's opinion on rate mining. Rate mining is defined as using the rate system to force stats on the rating board I think. hehe. In my quest of rating, some people have told me that asking to be rated is rate mining. I see it as more of a reminder. Tell me what you people think!

Derek, this topic has been discussed in the past. You might want to do a search on "Rate Mining" in the General Discussion thread.

But yes, Asking for a rating, IMHO, IS mining.

Ack so many posts there but I'll read it anyways :)

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I need better ideas for debating. My brain feels like it's been fried for 6 years lol

I have to agree with Derek on something there. People are forgetful. People stop by and exclaim in caps at how cool my new disco is gonna be, and yet I have the crappiest building rating ever.
Do these people not realize that the rating system is there for the specific purpose of making these compliments?
I dont think ive ever asked for a rating, and im not really high on the boards, given that I do not have a cute or slutty female avatar, but it seems that some people who have been here for two weeks already have better building ratings than me even though they dont know a thing about this game and often come to me for lessons.

Amen Eggy,

I had been in game for about a month and this girl came in game, after about a week she had the same ratings as me. She hadn't built much of anything. All she did was run around to events and be "fun". Which is why people need to be more discerning about giving out ratings. I'm running neg. every week right now in order to help Americana, if i was a cute slutty avatar maybe i'd have enough ratings to have money... hmmm i should do it.

Maybe there should be a bit of clarification of terms for this topic.

I admit to doing a bit of rate mining, albeit one way rating (me rating others). If they rate back, ok, if not, no big deal. I also like to find noobs in the Welcome Area, and give them their first rating. Its my way of saying "Welcome to Second Life". As a rule, I only rate you on the first two, and when I see something I like that you built, you get rated for building.

On the other hand, we have the Slutty or Cute Female Avs, who rate everyone, and aren't shy about asking you to rate them back. in fact, they practically demand you rate them. This is no ordinary Rate Miner. This is what I call a Rate Whore.
