The P2P teleporting thread and the plan for allowing new customers to select there entry point from web pages and pictures and descriptions of their entry points makes me wonder if it might be nice to have point to point travel from pages in a "Where to go" section of secondlife.com.
Parcel owners who want traffic could make video clips showing off their place as well as using still pictures and words, and maybe it could be in a publicly accessible web site so any search engine of one's choice could be used for searching. Existing SL customers would click a link to get teleported directly to the location; those not in SL would get taken to a signup page and then teleported directly to the location if they successfully complete the registration process.

Good idea, and I'd bet it's an easy change for LL to make. We can already link to certain spots in SL using a "secondlife://" type link in our browsers, but it redirects us to the nearest telehub. LL simply needs to:
* Remove the redirect to the telehub and allow a direct link.
* Modify the llLoadURL() function to support secondlife:// links in addition to http:// links.

I'm thinking along the lines of being able to teleport directly to a store from slexchange, slboutique or secondserver shopping sites, or people putting in "virtual airplane" as a search term for google, taking the Abbotts Aerodrome webpage in the results list, and then being able to click on a link and get either teleported directly to the appropriate location in Abbotts Aerodrome if they are already a member or getting sent to a page that says something like "the link you have selected requires you to have the Second Life client installed" and then to a registration and download page for Second Life.
If they complete the registration process they would get directed to the location in Second Life specified in the link on the webpage, bypassing the Orientation Island process. In this example a rational place would be the Abbots Aerodrome Noob Reception Center, where noob handlers, either volunteers like we have now, or paid works for the Aerodrome complex, would be waiting to help them get acquainted with the controls and get to see the virtual airplane they were interested in at the beginning of the process.
