I've heard things floating around here and there about possible new city sims but was wondering if anyone has some solid info?

No Solid info, just suspicious that all the private sims were moved out... it could be to make room for new city sims, but it could also be because the map looked a mess with them all so close.

i wouldn't bank on it. the ones we have are apparently sparcely populated and rarely used.
they were supposed to pack a whomping lot of glory into a few sims next to the welcome center. the idea was for newbies, expecially basics, to ride the trolley from stage 4 into the city and on to luna and be amazed and spend money and want to stay and shop forever! didn't happen. don't know why. _____________________

One of the first things my friend and I noticed when we went to Luna was that the trolley doesn't work. We were both bitterly dissapointed. I love riding around in things.
There are only .. what?.. 3 city sims? I wish there were more so that people could open stores in them. Big stores look really odd sitting right next door to someones little newbie cabin on a tropical island. |

In this post from back in April, Haney says there were no plans for new city sims because they weren't cost effective for LL. In case those of you who don't know much about the city sims aren't aware of it, land owners in those sims get a double prim allotment. I believe the Lindens were hoping the city sims would become a hotbed for commercial activity in SL, being so close to Luna and the Welcome Area.
I guess I'd better get off my lazy butt and do something more productive with the 2160 meters I own in Miramare... |

In that post Beryl cited Haney says:
No plans for more city sims right now. We have to limit the number of these we put up because we get less than half of the monthly land tier income compared to regular sims. No plans right now. That could always change. It sounds to me like they might be willing to subsidize more city sims in the future, perhaps as a very small percentage of the overall sim number. I hope they do this and make them few and far between, like official urban areas surrounded by A LOT of more natural landscapes. The double prim allotment, smaller parcels and Linden infrastructure available in an official city sim really help to shape an urban landscape quickly. Our ability, as city dwellers, to make Grignano, Sistiana, Barcola and Miramare a vibrant city would help make this more possible too. An alternate, as some are doing presently, is for resident's to organize thier own urban areas. Unfortunately they don't have the benefit of double prim allotments forced on them to more quickly produce a cityscape. They would have to work together more to develop their infrastructure themselves and divide their land/prim allotment up in such a way that they could produce larger structures in a more dense area. Quite a challenege and a lot of fun for those up to the task. Just remember... Nova Albion wasn't built in a day. |

they can have double prims if a group owns the entire sim, lays out some roads, sidewalks and waterways that occupy half the space, then assigns lots to people and allows them to use (almost) double the normal prim allotment for that meterage.
oh streetlamps, i forgot steetlamps. _____________________

Part of the ongoing problem I see (at least in Miramare) is vacant lots. Some are used for prim land, others are simply empty. I admit to having two small lots that as yet have nothing on them. I may just use them as "park" space since they're next to Tiger's park.
My store has the benefit of being the first thing you see when flying west from Welcome, so I enjoy a decent amount of business. How are the rest of you business owners doing? |

Marcos, you're right about the empty plots; I have a couple of those, myself. I used to have a park area on the big plot in the middle-ish of Miramare, but I took that down a while back with the intention of putting something else up... and then never got around to it. I've toyed with making another park-like area that could be decorated with seasonally oriented things (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc.), but it takes a lot of time to make new textures and come up with new ideas. I may put up another sort of park there (there were some great ideas at Khamon's garden competition this week), or... I dunno. I originally had a structure built to sit on my piece of property next to the water because there used to be a lot of boat traffic around SL, but that seems to have died down. I've toyed with the idea of an open-air market or something... but that takes work and can be a headache to organize an event like that. I'm also not selling anything anymore, but that could change, too, who knows. It's so hard to sustain projects in SL; it's good to be civic- and community-minded, but sometimes you have to do your own thing, too. I think it is good to talk with other city sim owners about what we'd all like to accomplish with our land there, maybe in an organised fashion. I do feel lucky to have land there with a double prim allotment. |

Speaking as someone who would love to have retail space in the city sims, if you're really stumped about what to do with your empty city lot, maybe rent it out to someone who wants to sell things? Maybe a newbie artisan who cant afford retail space somewhere else. Might bring people back to shop. This is kind of a self serving idea. But I have no shame.

I read somewhere that there is a huge desert out west, beyond the city.
Oh wait, nevermind. I made that up last spring. ![]() |

Talk to me next time I log in Ingrid. One of my small plots would be perfect for your needs.
