Just thought I'd pass along a friendly warning. My store in Indigo was nearly destroyed by a land griefer tonight, as were several other builds along the North coast. Don't ask me how Edit Land was left on; I thought it was off, but whatever the case may be, someone is flying around, deliberately destroying as many builds as possible. I'd advise everyone to take a look at your Edit Land check box ASAP and make sure it's really off. One of the other victims I talked to thought his had been off as well.
I'm really hoping that both of us were simply mistaken, and that some bug/exploit that spontaneously turns on Edit Land is not in effect. In any case, let's all try to keep an eye out for the responsible person(s). I know it's easy for people to get away with this sort of thing, but there are about 20,000 of us and only a few of them. The odds are certainly in our favor. Keep your finger on the abuse report button.

Yep, I logged in to find my items had been sent off world (which never actually were returned to me). I flew over to my land and found it was raised all the way up with deep holes here and there. I know I had edit land turned off...but I too hope there isn't some way of getting around that. I've checked it many times to make sure it's off now. I also took a picture with UI in it so I had proof that edit is off in case this happens again. I was able to fix it pretty quickly but it was extremely annoying. Double check your land permissions!

Thank you Torrid I would also suggest limiting the time that outside objects etc can remain rezzed on the land. I got my land set to automatically return other objects after 5 minutes.

I own land in Cecropia & saw someone flying around terraforming other people's land
04-13-2005 03:14
I was at my plot in the Cecropia insane asylum and saw someone having a grand time making a pit in a plot of land next to mine. I figured they were working on their own plot just having a great time playing with the land shaping tools which are fun to play with.
They were messing with my land too since it was adjacent but it didn't matter because I had done no special work on it to anyway and the pits the rougue landshaper was making were just as interesting as the flat land I had there.
I didn't think much of it. I was right there at the scene, if I had objected I could have spoken up and I didn't, so the terraformer may have thought that constituted silent consent.
As it turns out, I was wrong about who owned the land that the main big pit was being made in. It didn't belong to the mad terraformer, it belongs to one of my friends. As it turns out it still didn't matter in this case, it was just a tiny plot of undeveloped land.
I would put money on it that this guy or gal is one of - possibly the main one, who knows - of the folks who fly around making pits and mountains of other people's land.
I don't have much point to this, except that I did get to see and know with absolute certainty the identity of one person who has a really high neg rating for behavior, knowingly landforming other's properties without permission. At some point in the process, the person said "This is so much fun!" I will be that is they were destroying someone's complex build they would have been cackling with delight. That is just speculation in this case. But someone's out there doing it on purpose for fun.
I have heard people say this sort of behavior is the result of innocent noobs who don't know better. Oh yeah right, sheesh!

C'mon Lindens, we love ya, but GET WITH THE PROGRAM! This has been going on for close to a year now and is STILL a problem. When you subdivide a plot, often one of the new plots will NOT maintain the settings of the old plot, which makes ZERO sense, especially with such a huge grief tool.
This has sabotaged thousands of hours of your customer's work, and while we have video on prims, we STILL do not have:
[ ] Owner Can Edit Land [ ] Group Officers Can Edit Land [ ] Group Members Can Edit Land [ ] Anyone / Griefer Fucktards Can Edit Land
Is it THAT hard?! Its only one if - elseif statement! While the Lindens I've had to talk to in the past have been VERY helpful in restoring this after griefers, this kind of BLATANT griefing calls for public naming, flogging, and in-world execution. Its also a huge waste of everyone's time in crisis maintenance instead of preventative maintenance. Just let me press that shiny, red, terminate account button on a griefer once! And make the griefer pay my full tier for a month, you have their credit card! Okay, maybe that's a bit much.

Thanks for making my day! I really, really want to see the Lindens do this! I want them to keep that wording *exactly* as you have phrased it "Any Griefer/Fucktards Can Edit Land". That will concentrate the mind wonderfully! I do want to ask if we are absolutely sure this is a griefer, and not a 1.6 bug. The reason I ask is that Buster Peel lost all the objects off his land. I saw a land of mine terraformed up when I know I didn't touch it and I don't think it was griefed. I had a tenant complain that houses being rezzed were going excessively off world. I don't think in fact there is a bug. I think there is other stuff going on in each and ever case here. But we need to ask that question.

Actually I have had the same problem several times in several sims since the early days of 1.5.
In a sick sort of way I am glad to know I am not the only one. I know for certain Land edit was turned off on all my land. Log in and its on and the land wrecked.

Just a quick FYI, if someone edits your land all wierd-like, there is a land tool that will let you revert it to its original shape (i.e. before you bought it.) You'll lose any terraforming you did yourself in the process, but it should be easy enough to re-do whatever you did. You can turn off object display with ctrl+alt+shift+9 if you need to see under anything. (Requires Debug menu, ctrl+alt+shift+d if you don't see it.)
I don't know what happens when you try to revert really old land (i.e. +-40M terraforming limit.)

Meanwhile your prims get jiggered do they not?
I agree. For some reason Linden's have a mental block when it comes to implementing the critical low hanging fruit.

The owner did not have it set so that it was editable and she hasn't logged in for a month or so. I can provide the name of the culprit to anyone, as I witnessed some of it before they took off.

I am glad I provided a laugh, but it is still kind of scary that the "Anyone can terraform" or "No one can terraform" is the only option offered. This provides extra trouble when dealing with group land. Its especially obnoxious that it likes to change itself to be on.
Oh well, I guess we'll just have to live with it for now.

Chad just moved Nexcom from Cecropia to another 4096 two days ago. He wants the new design to blend in with the green garden terrain in Burns, so he switched on Edit Land to let me begin work by integrating landscaping with the natural terrain.
I am not the landowner, so I had no ability to switch off Edit Land when I logged off. Edit Land was on, and the griefer(s) hit during the night. Revert worked well to restore the original configuration of the land. But is that original heightmap the only heightmap used by Revert?
Suggestion: It would be useful for us to be able to back up and save our landscaping work by manually triggering a database snapshot to be used by Revert.

Everyone, please see this thread and kind response from Robin Linden Click Here Then please file abuse reports detailing what's happened to you and who'se responsible. I don't want this affecting loads of people, so let's finish this issue off. Linden Labs are ready and waiting for your abuse reports
