Hi everyone!!! I am new to Second Life as you can see and I love it so far. Most people have been really friendly and helpful but others just have been very uptight and sensitive. I am thinking it has to do maybe because some of them make this game a job and take it very seriously.
I just wanna know. What are most of you guys here for? I am here just for the fun of it completely but i can see how there are a lot of chances of making some extra bucks by really getting into the whole computer graphic and programing deal.
But how do you react to people? I noticed a few people get easily offended and if I am just messing around and I am at their house or they are a host. That's not with everyone. I've met some really cool people that understand that I cant be serious.
I guess I just want to understand how most people expect to be treated? Or, if others feel the same way I do? That there are people that maybe need to take a couple of chill pills.
Peace out!

I'm in business in SL first and foremost because it's fun. If it wasn't I'd never have started. That being said, if your business becomes successful and you try to provide good customer service it will become like a real job whether you want it to or not. The ability to profit from it kinda makes up for that aspect of it I started in SL purely for the fun of it, but making and selling things turned out to be one of the funnest parts for me and I don't have as much time just for fun anymore. You'll find there are as many reasons for being in SL as there are people and everyone will expect a different standard of behavior. If you're on someone else's land and they get annoyed by your antics just be polite and respect their feelings. There's enough people and places here that everyone can find some likeminded folks and places to hang out.

I'm in SL because it inspires me.

Im in SL for the community, the inspiration, the distraction from a boring-ass RL, the opportunity, and the easy access to tools that expand my RL skills.
oh yea, and the hawtsecks.

Well, its changed over time for myself. First, it was for business, and I did acheive what I seeked. Later, I transcended that need and made it fun. My only purpose for business at this point is to fund my fun. No, its not sexballs type of fun, rather, the fun of watching others enjoying the creations I unleash onto the grid-scape for their enjoyment.

I run a not-for-profit establishment for fun, but I don't ignore the buisness side either. Its a challenge for me to make the inflow match the outflow, and at least for the last 6 months or so, I've succeeded - without having to charge anyone anything. Thanks to *many* generous folks in our community, we're still here. Each time our finances get low, and I start to get concerned I'm going to have to make a GoM run, a random guardian angel seems to come by and save us. If it's taught me anything - our community as a whole is more compassionate than I think we give it credit for sometimes

For some of us, business and fun are the same thing. I have a ball with my business in SL, even though I'm not really all that good at it. It's an interesting challange to balance product, marketing, R&D, updates and costs together into something that will self-sustain. Uptight, mean or twittish people are just part of life. I don't think it's any part of SL exactly, but part of humanity as a whole. You just have to find the people that will have fun with you - I know there's a bunch in SL who're in-world 100% for the fun of it. Just don't use "I can't be serious" as an excuse to ruin other's fun.

I'm in business in SL because it's fun, too. When I first started off, I loafed around and bought toys and admired people who made business in SL. Today I'm doing the business thing in SL, too, and it's definitely a blast. Welcome aboard!
